This was my first opprotunity to try Vanelli's Deli. Given the prices, I had an expectation of a wonderful product. I ordered Corned Beef sandwich and a Brisket sandwich. The corned beef tasted like the minced gyro meat and the brisket was not smoked in the traditional way but either injected with liquid smoked or brined in it. Both were absolutly terrible!!! Some resturants that have been around for a while start cutting corners to save on cost. Quality and pride should always be foremost if you want repeat customers. I would suggest they take a trip to Kansas City, Chicago or Texas if they are really interested in how a true brisket or pastrami tastes, which was actully slow cooked on the smoker for 15 plus hours. Not the short cut method!!! Although the food was not good, the customer service and interaction was a 5...
Read moreThe last time I was there I really didn't consider it a full Deli like I was used to in NY state but I guess it's the best we can expect down here. Being an Italian myself, I was disappointed at some of the items missing that one would expect at a Deli. All this aside,...to judge it against a NY style deli or any deli in the Northeast would be unfair. We are in the South.
The bread here is FANTASTIC! Just about anything you order here is going to be fresh! The guys behind the counter are friendly! (Cannot always say that about the ones up North) I'm going to go back in the next few weeks and see if they make and sell Italian sausage and their own meatballs. Being a Deli, I would hope to be able to walk in, order it or pick it up out of the case at the counter and go.
Either way, this place has some great food and my hat goes...
Read moreWell, I'm back to this.....Monday, I posted the question on the G'town Bulletin Board: where to get the best, fresh salad. Overall, I was directed to Java Cafe. Great choice! I'll be going back for the Spa Salad. Now, the second runner up was Vanelli's Deli. So, today, I visited them. First, let me just say, I've lived in G'town for a million years and this was my first visit. It will NOT be my last. David, let me try the pimento cheese and also, the chicken salad. How nice of him! They make their own mayo. I mean, seriously. My chicken salad was on a buttery croissant. As I was standing there ordering, I smelled the basket of FRESHLY baked cookies RIGHT next to me. GREAT product placement! I will definitely add this place to the list of FANTASTIC restaurants in G'town! Thanks for the...
