If you pass through Gettysburg, and you share my sweet tooth, Kilwins is a must stop! We initially ran in the door hoping to find some hot chocolates to fortify us for an evening ghost tour. When we the opened the door, the smell of the fresh baking waffle cones and waffle bowls was like a bit of heaven on Earth. I inquired about hot chocolate, but at first they apologized and said the steamer hadn't been on because of the nkce weather. No problem we said, and started planning our other treats from the amazing cases. While, even better, while we were shopping, they offered to turn the steamer on if we had five or ten minutes to hang out and let it heat up. So three ice creams, a carmel apple, three hot chocolates, and a dark chocolate pecan caramel patty later, we headed out, well provisioned for our tour, and super happy with the awesome customer service. Well, let me tell you, the hot chocolates were amazing, the ice cream and still warm waffle bowls, fantastic, and the candies damn near perfect. Everything was so good, that we had to make a special trip the next day. This time, three ice creams, a milkshake, and a few more candies, including carmels, made practically in front of my eyes. We also got to catch the fresh made carmel apples coming out of the dip, and several big blocks of just made fudge were chilling on the confectioners table. I just don't think you can get treats more fresh or delicious. I wish I had snapped a few more pictures of the actual processes going on, but I was too busy chatting candy, and scouts, and gettysburg, and buffalo with the staff, and just plain forgot. Anyhow, just one more time, if you get to Gettysburg, get to Kilwins. Oh, and apparently, Kilwins is a small franchise, so if you come across one elsewhere in your travels, make sure you stop. If it's anything like the Gettysburg location, you'll be glad...
Read moreAfter having drinks and dinner with a few friends, we all decided on ice-cream for desert. The Gettysburg favorite is MR. Gâs and the local hot spot is Half Pint Creamery. Out of those two Half Pint is by far the better choice.
However, Kilwins reopened and was within walking distance. Our group chose to give it a try. Upon walking into the shop, an amazing sensory overload of chocolate, caramel, and vanilla fill the air. My wife walked over to the display cases of custom chocolate and candies, to select a box to take home. I Journeyed to the rear where the ice cream is. The ice cream is sold by scoop. I ordered one scoop of the âGettysburg Mudâ it is a vanilla base, with caramel and chocolate swirl. The proportion of one scoop on a waffle cone was perfect. I have to say out of all the ice cream I have had, this is my absolute new favorite. From the texture, to the creaminess it was a little bit of heaven...
Read moreI absolutely love this little gem! đŹ From the moment you walk in, youâre surrounded by sweet temptations â creamy fudge, glossy candy apples, rich buckeyes, and shelves full of chocolatey goodness. But letâs talk about the real star of the show: the ice cream. đ¨
Their newest limited-edition flavor, Double Peanut Butter Pie, is hands down the best ice cream Iâve ever tasted â so good, I didnât even stop to take a picture (I devoured it way too fast! đ).
Located right across from the Inn at Cemetery Hill, Kilwinâs is the perfect stop for a short stroll and a well-deserved treat after exploring historic Gettysburg. The cherry on top? The staff is just as sweet as the desserts â friendly, welcoming, and always ready with a smile.
If youâre in town, do yourself a favor and make Kilwinâs part of your visit. Trust me â your taste buds...
