I have been eating these donuts since before I could speak the words "donuts.. good." đ For me, that is over 40 years (ok, actually pushin 50 now) So long that I feel guilty that I have never written them a review. I have however, for my entire life told people, even other donut shop people that there is good and decent donuts... And then there are Holts Do-nuts. The absolute BEST (I'll go ahead and say it.) In the world... Ever. Sure you can also get an egg sandwich at DD. And yeah Lamar's glazed was a begrudgingly decent stand-in for those few years we lost Holts. But nothing, no where, can compare to Holt's perfect doh-to-glaze ratio and flavor note of their base glazed. And seriously, don't get me started about their Devil's Food. Any other donut shop you can get... Chocolate. Pffft. What is that? Well, it ain't Devil's Food Chocolate, I can tell ya that! Just go there, early. Or call ahead the night before. I have seen the owner in there at 9-10 at night prepping for the next day. What was she doing in there, you may ask? Conjuring delicious spells and tasty magic, I would guess. It is the only logical answer. If you don't think the Do-nut you get is fantastic, then something has broke your taste buds. Seek help immediately!
Oh and to compare Holts to Grandview Price Chopper donuts? Blasphemy! Someone should be ashamed...
Read moreAbsolutely wonderful little shop. Very clean, bright and pleasing with easily visible options as soon as you walk in the door. They had a large selection of delicious, fresh donuts even though they were twenty minutes from closing when i got there. I wish i could remember the lady's name that was working the counter, but she was as outgoing, friendly, and genuine as someone can be. She gave info about any questions i had, maintained the most friendly, pleasant, and positive frame of mind, and made me feel like I'd been coming there for years. There were indeed people that were obviously regular patrons, as one gentleman in particular was recognized, greeted, and told she had his regular all ready for him, handed him his bag of incredibly delicious goodies, and warmly thanked him with a smile. Truly the kind of place that makes you want to stay for hours, and try one of everything lol. If you go, make ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that you get at least one LongJohn with creme filling. You'll be so glad you did... unless you just don't like being able to take a bite out of...
Read moreBeen eating Holts for years and itâs high time I write a review.
First, the cake donuts. The consistence of these is always great â soft, but with enough firmness for a good mouthfeel, and the frosting is light and fluffy. I like that you can see little flecks of fruit in the frosting for the donuts that are cherry and blueberry frosted.
The glazed donuts have a pillowy texture and an airiness with a very slight chew, not quite melt-in-your-mouth but close. I actually prefer it this way, it makes it feel more substantial. The glaze is lovely, and I always get both cinnamon drizzle and cinnamon glazed. The cinnamon glazed has a more substantial, thicker, glaze thatâs the perfect complement to the yeast donut.
Iâve not had the pudding-filled donuts (not really my thing) but my husband has, they are his favorite. He says the texture of the pudding is better than a cream and slightly less sweet, which he likes.
These donuts are delicious. Nothing artificial about their flavors, great texture, consistent quality. Holts has completely ruined me for any...
