My family and I ate at this restaurant on 11 Aug 2024, during our 5-day visit to Great Falls, based on recommendations from a couple of family members. We made reservations prior to visiting so we were anticipating this visit for a few weeks. Though, I didn't expect too much from this restaurant because living in Las Vegas (LV), it's often difficult to find a nice/top quality restaurant (steakhouse) outside of my home city, since the culinary skills from executive chefs in LV can be difficult to match, or beat.
When we walked in, I was immediately amazed at the restaurant's nice/modern décor. I also appreciated how friendly the hostess was while she verified our reservation time - she escorted us to our table afterwards without making us wait for an extended time. One thing I enjoyed about the restaurant layout is that our table wasn't close to the tables on either side of us - I can't say how many times I've eaten at restaurants and I could literally hear everyone's conversations next to me because the tables were positioned too close together.
Our main server, Justin B., was extraordinary. He did such a remarkable job the entire evening; he was very attentive, professional, friendly, and highly efficient. It was refreshing to see folks still taking their job seriously - something I've noticed not being practiced a lot these days at different businesses I've visited across the country. The service in general was outstanding; I was looking around the restaurant and seeing how proficient all the employees were - kudos to the employees and managers for their operations management skills.
Now for the main topic of this review...we ordered the Chophouse Old Fashioned, Herdsman Cab, and Shirley Temple for our drinks; Crabmeat-Stuffed Mushrooms for our appetizer; Ribeye w/Cup of Gumbo, Famous Filet w/6 oz. Lobster Tail and Side Salad, Chicken Fried Chicken Sandwich w/Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Carrot Soufflé, and Broccoli for our main entrées and sides; and Ice Cream Brownie Sundae and Reese's® Peanut Butter Pie for dessert. The drinks were amazing...so hats off to the bartender that evening. The Crabmeat-Stuffed Mushrooms were delicious, but personally, I think the "garlic" bread that accompanies the actual mushrooms could be eliminated since the bread and butter that arrives at every table is adequate and pairs nicely with the mushrooms - but hey, who doesn't like to overload on carbohydrates these days? The Gumbo was peculiarly magnificent; I was taken back from that because I didn't expect to receive such an astounding cup of goodness in a city that isn't in Louisiana or from some of the restaurants I've had in LV. The Filet was good and the Lobster Tail was sensational for a non-coastal region. The sides were wonderful; however, the Carrot Soufflé was slightly too sweet for me. The Ribeye was cooked to perfection, temperature-wise, but the steak itself lacked seasoning. I think I'm just used to the steaks they serve in LV where everything is salted well enough to form a great crust around it during high-temperature grilling/broiling. The Chicken Fried Chicken was superb; the Ice Cream Brownie Sundae was mediocre; and the Reese's® Peanut Butter Pie was a sin (in a positive way). Of noteworthy mention, although we didn't order the Boudin Balls (didn't feel like having pork that evening), I've heard such great reviews of that appetizer.
The price-to-quantity/quality is second-to-none. I highly respect this business for their continued support to the active men and women of the Armed Forces, including its Veterans - thank you for that! Overall, this restaurant exceeded my expectations. I don't anticipate returning for another visit due to the location, but I highly recommend this restaurant to all locals...
Read moreAbsolutely fantastic date night. Made reservations just barely 24 hours prior to our visit by visiting the Rib and Chop House website and clicking "reservations". They had either quite an early dinner (4:15) or late reservations (8:15) available- we chose to go with late and had no regrets!
We arrived on time for our reservations and were seated promptly. Seating was beautiful and very comfortable. Absolutely love the open window views of downtown via full-surround windows. Very classily decorated space. Lighting was beautiful, romantic, and just right. My husband and I would agree noise level was above average but it wasn't off-putting for us personally- but it was quite noticeable.
Our waitress, Raiden, was an absolute gem and very well trained and attentive to our needs. She was such a sweetheart, and we were so grateful to be blessed with her service.
Food was absolutely fantastic! I'd say it was expensive for the amount but honestly tasted fabulous, so who can argue?
Food ordered: -Boudin Balls appetizer: very delicious -5 specialty drinks in all (all descent, but admittedly the drink menu was the least impressive thing during our visit.) -New York Strip Steak (hubby order): husband said it was delicious -Baseball Cut Top Sirloin with garlic button mushrooms (my order): don't let the name throw you. Absolutely delicious and so incredibly tender (more tender than new York strip- truly). And I would go back again and again just for those amazing garlic mushrooms. -Ice cream Brownie Sunday: again delicious- I'm not typically a chocolate fan but the brownie was the perfect level of chewy.
Visit total before tip as per orders above: $165. Expensive but they live up to the prices.
We spent about 1.5 hours in total during our visit and didn't feel any lack in service. Everything felt appropriately timed. Bar drinks took a bit long but nothing we were bothered by.
All in all we were highly impressed with our first visit to Great Falls Rib and Chop House. Highly recommend and would definitely return. Go in knowing it's busy (come on, they're brand newly opened), they're pricey but worth it, and it's loud as people are having a great time. But it is absolutely worth trying!! Great experience, truly wonderful...
Read moreI've had dinner here twice now. The first time, I had the salmon, a side salad, and fresh spinach. We shared the fried shrimp appetizer. Loved the shrimp, but the fries that accompanied it were the same awful Sysco precut and preseasoned ones that Applebee's serves, and i always avoid there. My salmon was way overcooked, and the spinach was so oversalted that it was inedible. There was so much (not fresh) salad on the plate that touching it with my fork caused a large part of it to spill onto the table, making a big mess. Our server was great, so we left a generous tip. My second visit was for my adult son's birthday. We ordered the shrimp appetizer again but didn't touch the Applebee's fries. My side caesar salad had easily enough dressing on it for 5 salads, and the romaine had seen far better days. My pork chop was good, but the fresh green beans hadn't been properly trimmed, making them look very unappealing. Also, I asked specifically for No Pepper and saw the waitress make that note on our ticket. Instead, they arrived covered with a strange "seasoning combo" that included a whopping portion of black pepper. It isn't that I dislike pepper; it's that very much of it causes me to become ill. And it's not an allergy but a permanent side effect of chemotherapy. Don't get me wrong. I WANT to frequent your restaurant, and Great Falls needs an upscale place like yours. I love that you have a good Sauvignon Blanc by the glass! And I wanted to gave the option of a second glass recently, but our service was so rushed, I had barely finished my first glass when dinner was over! Pls, you need to make some adjustments. Pls, pls slow down the courses. When I spend $135 for 2 of us, I'd like to relax a bit and enjoy it. Pls stop seasoning fresh vegetables within an inch of their lives; that's a task for the individual diner at her table. And pls serve homemade fries, thus making them available without heavy seasonings. Last, how about smaller, fresher salads? I will return to your establishment because the atmosphere is very inviting, and you serve good wine by the glass, but I'd appreciate some needed improvements being made. Thank you...
