I literally never write restaurant reviews, but felt compelled to write one for our poor experience at Chefusion. We had heard so much hype about this place, we decided to try it out for restaurant week. To say we walked out disappointed would be an enormous understatement. Before we even got there, I checked out their restaurant week menu and compared it to their normal menu. There were a few menu items that were more expensive for restaurant week than they are normally! When we got there, they sat us upstairs at a small 2 person table that was situated between 2 4-person tables that were also occupied. Our table was so close to the other tables that I could not sit straight up in the chair without touching the gentlemen behind me...so needless to say, it was terribly cramped. For appetizers, my wife got some sort of avocado salad which she said was good but not great. I got the soup du jour, which was a beef and potato soup. It was very good. However, our main courses were incredibly disappointing and not representative of what the menu said. I got the filet mignon and jumbo shrimp, with what were supposed to be truffle smashed fingerling potatoes. The filet was the least flavorful filet I've ever had and the "jumbo" shrimp were not jumbo. They tasted fine, but again very little flavor. The truffle smashed potatoes had literally no flavor whatsoever. Given what I expected, this was probably the most disappointing meal I've ever had. My wife got the Chilean Seabass. For the record, my wife NEVER complains about food she gets at a restaurant. She said the seabass lacked any flavor or seasoning. It was also supposed to come with wild mexican risotto... which was neither wild nor mexican. My wife said (are you sensing a theme here?) that the risotto had very little flavor. How they ever passed it off as Mexican, neither of us know. On to dessert. I got the lemon butter cake, which was excellent. However my wife got the Tiramisu cheesecake and was disappointed. It wasn't a cheesecake at all! It was basically a tiramisu mouse, not a cheesecake. Again, very misleading from what the menu said (another theme). To top everything off, the waitress was very absent. She also gave/charged my wife for a wine that was $3 per glass more than the one she actually ordered. Our experience at Chefusion was a complete disaster. I have a hard time spending over $100 on a meal no matter what, but when we both walk out disappointing it's a terrible feeling. Given all the rave reviews from so many different people, I'm not sure what happened last night. But when I have an experience like that, I'm simply not going to come back. For the record, we had very equivalent dishes over at Plae Bistro for restaurant week, and those were phenomenal, absolutely blowing Chefusion out...
Read moreI rarely write reviews, but this place was bad enough that I felt it was compulsory in lieue of my experience.
BLUF: The food was no better than an average family restaurant in rural Wisconsin. The only item of any real quality was the drinks. Overall, this place was very very overpriced(including drinks). The atmosphere itself was nice.
I don't know if they were short-staffed or something else, but they shouldn't have been seating people at full capacity if they were short-staffed.
The plating seen in other reviews' photos was not present either.
We arrived in Green Bay on December 23 from Florida to visit my parents. I decided to take them somewhere fairly nice, and the menu seen online seemed to check all the boxes. Upon entering, we were advised to go upstairs as the downstairs area was all reserved.
We all looked over the menu, ordered drinks and appetizers, and then our main and desserts a few minutes later when our drinks arrived.
Our appetizers came out, and were ok, but not up to the standard I would expect of this place with it's menu and prices. The best way I can describe everything overall would be if my mom tried to make these dishes at home, with no prior experience, and then tried to substitute out certain ingredients and dishes with lower quality ones.
Then came the wait.... Drink after drink we ordered, and before I realized it, 2 hours had gone by, without a single word about our main courses. After asking the waiter, we had our dishes, over 2 hours after sitting down. We requested desserts be started immediately due to the wait, and those also took around 25min.
Again, nothing was incredible or over the top, definitely not worth the price.
At the end I expected to be comped for the ridiculous wait times and poor dish quality, and none was immediately given.
Instead, I ended up needing to talk to the manager, upon which everyone at my table expressed their discontentment with pretty much everything. She was nice enough and offered a $50 gift certificate off of our $400 meal, however, I told her I probably wouldn't be coming this way again travelling, and that a gift certificate would not be satisfactory.
This was the only remedy offered, and I gave it to a random person I met on the street a few minutes later. Hopefully they used...
Read moreMy fiancé and myself celebrated our 7 year anniversary by going to Chefusion. I have heard many good things about the restaurant, so we were excited to try it out.
We started our meal with two drinks, a lemon drop and a Hypnotize Me. The lemon drop was on the stronger side, I wish it had more lemon flavor. The Hypnotize Me was pretty good. We then ordered the 3 course for $30 meal for each of us. This included a side, small plate and a dessert.
The meal started with an amuse bouche, which was very delicious. We then received complementary bread with an olive spread, Wisconsin butter spread and garlic hummus to accompany it. The bread was very nice and fresh tasting.
We both ordered the lobster bisque, which was interesting. My chunk of lobster was cold in the center, but my fiancé's was hot. It had a unique flavor on the end of each bite, couldn't put our fingers on what was the seasoning. In between first and second course was a mixed fruit sorbet as a pallet cleanser. For our small plates, we ordered one volcano shrimp and one steak with bone marrow sauce and bread pudding. Both were pretty good.
For dessert, we ordered one gooey lemon cake and a candy chocolate cupcake. I was disappointed in the cupcake. First, it was very cold, and the frosting was hard. The bottom was like a brownie, but was hard and over cooked. The frosting had half of a KitKat bar, recess cup and snickers in the top. The KitKat was soggy, so the cupcake was probably pre-made quite some time before being served. This was overall the only disappointing food we had in our meal.
We did however have the most excellent waiter, named Ross. He was so nice, knowledgeable and taught us about our dishes and the menu. The atmosphere was lovely, soft lighting, classical music playing. Tables were at a respectable distance for social distancing.
Overall good experience, I would go again to try more foods on their...
