Located next to the scenic Fox River, The Creamery Downtown offers not just a meal but an experience. The modern ambiance combined with breathtaking views of the river creates the perfect setting for a memorable dining experience. On my visit, I indulged in the Grilled Steak Panini, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. The moment the Grilled Steak Panini arrived at my table, I was immediately struck by its appealing presentation. The sandwich was neatly pressed, with the grill marks adding a rustic charm. As I picked it up, I could feel the warmth emanating from the freshly grilled bread, which was perfectly crisp on the outside yet soft and inviting inside. Taking the first bite, I was instantly impressed by the tenderness of the tenderloin. The steak was cooked to perfection, with a juicy and succulent texture that melted in my mouth. Each bite released a burst of rich, savory flavor that was both satisfying and comforting. The goat cheese added a creamy richness that complemented the steak wonderfully, its slight tanginess providing a pleasant contrast to the meat without overpowering the other flavors. What truly elevated the sandwich was the blueberry serrano jam. It brought an unexpected yet delightful sweet heat to the panini. The jam's sweetness paired beautifully with the savory steak, while the serrano peppers added a subtle kick that kept my taste buds intrigued. The pickled red onions and pickled fresnos introduced a bright, tangy element that cut through the richness of the steak and cheese, adding a layer of complexity to the flavor profile. The mixed greens provided a refreshing crunch, adding a lightness to the overall experience. This sandwich wasn't just a dish; it was an experience—one that I would eagerly repeat. The Creamery Downtown not only excels in its cuisine but also in providing an inviting atmosphere with spectacular views. If you find yourself in the city, this restaurant is a must-visit. I am already looking forward to my next visit to relive this culinary...
Read moreThis was the first time my friend and I went to the Creamery. We had heard raving reviews about it from Family and Friends, so we were excited to give it a try.
We arrived around 8 am on a Saturday morning. We were seated right away, but could tell the restaurant was going to get pretty busy. The decor was nice, the space was pretty small and the seating space was a little crowded. We were placed at a window seat with two bar stools. We didn't mind this except the window was very drafty and we had to keep our jackets on the whole time. That wasn't a very good part of our experience.
My friend ordered a pineapple mimosa and I ordered a cafe mocha. I usually order a mocha wherever I go, so I am used to drinking them. For some reason, mine tasted like there was zero sugar in it, so I had to add some. We both ordered the Town Drunk egg benedict which was poached eggs, an english muffin, bacon jam, beer cheese, hollandaise sauce and bacon strips on top. The dish had some high and low points. The bacon on top was very good, good thickness cut, done correctly and good flavor. The hollandaise sauce was just ok, kind of bland. One of my issues was with the poached eggs. One of my eggs - a portion of the egg white wasn't fully done, so I couldn't eat that part. The bacon jam underneath the eggs was so think and overly salty and sweet, I think they should tweak this. It also made the muffin underneath super soggy, which it not being toasted also caused that issue.
I would have given the restaurant a 4 out of 5 however, nearing the end of our meal the waitress had given us the check and took away our plates. We hadn't finished our drinks yet, and the waitress and hostess kept looking at us in a way that made us feel like we had to leave. If people were waiting to be seated, I would totally understand if they needed us to leave. However, the restaurant still had a few open tables and no one was in line, so we were pretty disappointed they made us feel that way. For that reason, I don't think we...
Read moreI wasn't sure what to expect here, but it was pretty decent. I went here for a business meeting, and I got the avocado toast, which was pretty good. Coffee was alright, but nothing amazing. The atmosphere was decent as well. Nothing amazing, and could use more vegan options on their menu, but pretty good overall.
Update: I've been here a few times since. The quality of food is pretty consistent. They have a good vegetable hash, a few good types of fries, and my daughter likes their Mac and cheese just fine. They have some good-but-expensive drinks as well. They still need more plant-based options.
The service is quite hit or miss. We went there for Father's Day, and they told us it would be about a 45 minute wait. That turned into 90 minutes. We thought that's okay, some people just may be lingering longer than expected after eating or whatever. However, every step took a very long time once inside. We waited a while to order our drinks. Then we waited what felt like an absurd amount of time to receive them and put in our food order. Then it was a loooong wait for the food. Over the course of the hour and 15 minutes we were there, we saw our waitress online about every 20 minutes.
What does this mean? Well let's break down the numbers. They have a seating capacity of 85, which means about 22-25 tables. If you have only one waitress, and an average visit to a table takes about a minute, you can only visit them about every 22-25 minutes. I think there were 3 waitresses working, so we should have seen ours about 2.5 times as frequently as we did. They have a bottomless mimosa deal that would be completely absurd to get under these circumstances. Also, when your time to serve is so slow, of course it's going to impact the wait time. The bottom line is that you should definitely avoid this place during busy times, like weekend brunch...
