I visited Neighbors for the second time this weekend. The first time I went was on a Wednesday night and was so lovely. This bar reminds me of my favorite bar back home up north and the two female bartenders I spoke to were so great I just had the best time.
The second time was on a Saturday and I was so pumped to go back! Far more packed and crowded than my first experience. There were many large groups, the music was loud, the vibes were fun. I ran into some old friends I haven’t seen in a while…and girls being girls, sure, we were a little loud at first sight. After a few seconds of excitement and hugs, it turned into talking and catching up. One male bartender rudely said “if we’re going to scream we should take it outside.” Ok weird we thought..but at this point we were just talking as normal as someone could in a loud bar with music, so we went about our discussions. A good 10 minutes later, the BOUNCER, walked by us and passive aggressively shouted “CAN YOU STOP SCREAMING!!!” The entire bar went quiet … and then he said “SEE WHATS IT SOUNDS LIKE WHEN ITS QUIET???!!”
I’ve worked in dozens and dozens of restaurants, bars, and have been in the hospitality industry for 15 years. I’ve never experienced anything like this before quite honestly. So we deserved to get scolded in front of an entire bar twice because we were having fun? At your bar? Buying your drinks , standing there talking and not hurting anyone? It left us all feeling so incredibly uncomfortable and we eventually left. Mind you, we all know each other from working at a restaurant in Greensboro!! So was the goal to get us to leave? Is that what you wanted? I really encourage you to talk to your staff about the importance of hospitality. It just wasn’t how we should have been treated and there was no need for the immense hostility. It sucks because I was so hopeful about this place and now I don’t know if I...
Read moreA lovely addition to downtown Greensboro. I've been to Neighbors several times since they opened and have never been disappointed. Good food and drinks made with quality ingredients and lots of love. The "Late Night Slice at Sticks" is my favorite cocktail. So light and refreshing on a hot day. Being a native Chicagoan I can tell you with 100% certainty the Chicago Dog is a true taste of home and you won't be disappointed. But, I encourage you to branch out and try the ribs and brisket. My husband lived in Texas for many years and said he hasn't had brisket this good since he lived in Texas. And the beef tallofries, oh my! Fries so good they should come with a warning label. I'm not kidding. If you have hard opinions about fries and love the fries from the Golden Arches, I promise you that Neighbors fries will ruin your opinion of all other fries. Crispy, hot, salty deliciousness every single time. The atmosphere is great, a true neighborhood gem where everyone is welcome. We look forward to our next visit on a Sunday when I can finally try the Sunday Gravy and Holiday Pour of Wine. ♥️ Give Neighbors a try. One visit and it will quickly become your favorite...
Read moreI typically don't leave reviews, but this one left a lasting impression. Last night, I decided to try Greensboro's local beer scene and stopped by Joymongers, a charming spot. However, as I was leaving, I noticed "Neighbor," a cute little place nearby with a clear "ORDER HERE" sign at the window. Unfortunately, I experienced complete neglect from the two employees inside. Despite my attempts to get their attention, including tapping on the window and asking if I was in the right place to order, there was only silence.
I contemplated voicing my concern for the lack of service but, after waiting for 5 minutes, I decided to leave. I felt too embarrassed to enter and speak to a manager, as I was unsure if one of the employees might be the manager or if I would receive the same treatment inside.
I want to clarify that I am a 40-year-old, well-dressed black male, and while I'd like to believe my race had no impact on the service I received, I can't say for sure whether it did or didn't. What I do know is that with a name like "Neighbor," one would expect exceptional customer service to be their hallmark. Unfortunately, that wasn't the...
