I've been eating slices of pizza at the Corner Slice since the day it opened.
I was never a huge fan of the food. I thought the quality was mediocre and the flavor is slightly lacking (ordering well done helps) but beers are super cheap and the locals are cool as hell, so I always hung out.
Years go by..... I was talking with a friend (who recently moved into the neighborhood and also frequented The Slice). We discussed the Corner Slice pizza quality. I came to the argument as a person who could take it or leave it. But he loved it. His fridge was full of pizza boxes. We laughed. I didn't get it. I argued and he shed light...he tells me to SKIP THE SLICE and order a PIE.
So being the concerned patron that I am...I decided to start ordering by the pie instead of the slice...low and behold, it is indeed, a better product. Far and away better. It is mind blowing how much better it is. They have good pizza (well, some of them are good but we can get to that some other time) that needs to be experienced by the pie.
That being said, the suggestions I will provide to Josh is as follows:
Stop serving pizza by the slice. You simply aren't good at it. The pizza is a much lesser quality.
Find a way to charge a little bit less for your small pizza. This is the option that will replace your slice orders so it has to be cheap enough....(more on that later). Add a medium pie to the menu that is a dollar or two more expensive than the current small size pie. This, in theory, should make up some revenue for the small size reduction in price. And lastly, but most importantly, charge three or four dollars more for the large.
There is a reason why families and old people frequent your establishment. The large pie is a super good deal that can't be beat, so naturally, you are going to attract that demographic. The problem with that is families don't dine-in that often, which reduces your other sales (like those delicious beers) and it also takes away from the level of service your dine-in customers receive. And old people don't ever buy anything extra. Why you want to tap into an old persons market is beyond me. Leave that to McDonald's.
In order to improve your business model, you need to start catering to a younger crowd that is willing to spend money. You are right in the sweet spot for age bracket and income with the location you are in, so you should take advantage of it. Younger people don't want to hang out with old folks...
Read moreI frequently visit this establishment for a quick slice for lunch since they have decent prices for huge slices so I tried them for dinner a couple of nights and quickly found out that the day crew is totally different than the night shift. 2 occasions in particular come to mind with the most recent being last week. On the first I placed a to go order and had my husband grab it on his way home. The name was Andy and when my husband went to get the pizza the lady tried to give him an order for Andre. When he questioned the name and pointed out the difference the waitress replied, its close enough right? No its not. I would like to think race didn't play a role in her remark but unfortunately my husband, who is a black man, must have looked like an Andre to her. Minutes after this as he was about to leave with the wrong order due to the waitress refusing to believe my husband is named Andy the real Andre walked in and claimed his order. Apparently it had to be proven in order to be believed. Terrible treatment. On the second occasion I also called in a to go order and spoke with a female over the phone. In taking my order she was very snippy and was rushing me to hurry off the phone hanging up as I was asking to pay over the phone. I called back and asked to pay and was asked for my card number without a total. When I asked for a total I was told that it would be given after my card was ran. At this point I can't figure out why I'm getting attitude and being treated as if I'm a problem rather than a paying customer. I had to explain to the woman that I was using a visa gift card and needed the total to pay the balance from the gift card. After jumping through hoops just to pay over the phone the tone of the employee changed and she became a different person who was now friendly. Overall the food is pretty good which is why I keep coming back despite the incidents but I'm afraid the service has left a bad taste in our mouths. Why pay money to be...
Read moreI read reviews and was surprised, my family went there a week ago and dined in, we placed an order and waited 40 minutes, the waiter comes back and says our ticket was skipped over and they were just starting to make the food, it wasn’t busy at all. I asked for the baked wings to be crispy they sent them back and they were corrected. I came back a second time, and I shouldn’t have!!! Once again we had a long wait to eat and the place wasn’t crowded just regulars at the bar. I Placed the same order and the waiter remembered me. THIS time, the wings were baked regular when I asked them to bake well done at my order placement, and when I asked for a correction the cook just burned them up out of spite. The waiter apologized as he brought the plate out and said different people cooking nothing he could do the cooked watched my reaction from the back….. like this was funny…. It was disrespectful I would not feed my dog that burnt up chicken. When I asked for the manager she didn’t even bother coming over, just told him nothing they could do and I would have to pay. If I had cash I would have deducted it from my tab( we ordered pizza, salad and soft drinks) they have me “Josh” number said I have to call in the morning to complain. I was treated like a second class citizen, it’s clear my business is not welcome there myself and my family won’t be back. It’s appalling people are behaving this way in 2025. You don’t have to show me twice to eat elsewhere but the black dollar...
