Oakcrest Family Restaurant - the name in itself makes you think that perhaps this restaurant is family friendly, meaning friendly to families; however, after my visit tonight I found that to be 100% untrue. The waitress was wonderful. She was attentive and very friendly. Unfortunately it seemed like she was the only one. We were there for almost an hour and still didn't get our food. I have a 2 year old who was getting fussy because he was hungry. I am one who normally will take my child out if they are completely causing a scene. Today he was not causing a scene. He was just being a normal unhappy hungry child who occasionally got loud so image my completely shock when the manager comes over and says "We can't have screaming babies in here." I thought she was joking at first. After all, they are a "family" restaurant and children and babies are part of a family. Then she said "We have a large party and old people here. You can take him outside." The level of rudeness she used was ridiculous. I got up and took my children and my mother out of the restaurant even though our food had just arrived. I felt sorry for the waitress quite frankly because now she has been deprived of a well deserved tip because we had to walk out. I can honestly say this restaurant has the rudest management I have ever seen. I have never been so offended by someone for such little cause. Yes my child did make noise and was unhappy but not to the level where I should have been spoken to like that. As I was leaving there was another child crying. One has to wonder if they also were treated badly because they had a child who was probably hungry and waiting on their very slow cooks to send...
Read moreLet’s start off to say I called in at about 2 something to ask the difference between the shrimp basket and fried shrimp ... I hear two ladies in the background (guessing they had me on speaker) tryna figure out the answer to my question and one finally goes “the shrimp basket doesn’t have any sides... DUH” in a rude manner... so I said excuse me did she just say “duh” and the lady on the phone told me no. I was like ok and that was the end of the convo.. while the lady on the phone thought she hung up I stayed on the phone and heard her tell the other lady “she heard u say duh.. she thinks your being rude” then they proceeded to laugh then they finally realized that I was listening and hung up the phone.
Besides all that I still proceed to go in and place an order.. the waiters seemed a bit rude.. ( one was on her way out the door) but she was still at the register and could’ve greeted me.. but she didn’t . A few moments later I did come in contact with an older lady who actually seemed very nice and wanted to help me.
While waiting for my food, I look on the door (inside) and spot a roach crawling on the door... not wanting to be rude or cause trouble I still waited for my food.
I got home and almost everything was nasty... the sweet potatoes were off.. the cabbage tasted like onions... the shrimp didn’t have flavor... and everything else was just enough to get bye.
Only great thing I encountered here today was the nice older lady... other than that I won’t be...
Read moreWe chose to attempt to eat a midday breakfast here today. We've always had good experiences here for years. Upon entry, there was not a single table available. We didn't mind the 15 minute wait to be seated. We were greeted ten minutes after being seated which was understandable seeing such a full restaurant.
We ordered our breakfast meals and water and a decaf coffee for myself.
We waited 48 minutes from ordering til the food arrived. My toast was burnt and eggs and sausage were not even warm. I immediately reported it to our waitress. She scooped up my plate and took it to the back. It took 2 minutes and she was back, saying something that she said she has never said before while working there.
The cooks in the back , 3 of them... REFUSED TO RECOOK MY ORDER. Yes, those were her reported words to me directly from the cooks.
I've worked in 3 different restaurants in my life from prep to assistant executive chef and in a diner-type, family atmosphere style restaurant this is beyond sub standard work ethic to be done.
It was written on my ticket that the *cooks refused to remake due to cold food. I then had to explain the situation and the ticket to whom appeared to be the owner up front. He said he'd take care of it by talking to them. If he does or not I have no idea.
It should have been handled immediately due to me waiting close to an hour to only be given coffee.
My wife's food was fine yes she ordered other...
