El Fenix has been a favorite of my family and I for as far back as I can remember. Most of the time, we go to the location in downtown Dallas. But we would occasionally go to different locations. It was my Granny’s favorite restaurant. So whenever we go, it always gives me memories of her no matter which location. Even though we always pass the Greenville location, we have never actually been inside and eaten. We tried one time and it was so busy, we didn’t have time to wait. But this time my wife and I decided to stop by and grab a bite. We actually had that rare occasion where we were both off of work on the same day. We decided to stop by and grab a bite for lunch. I ordered the classic chicken enchiladas and they were good. My wife, she ordered the tortilla soup with her rice on the side. She enjoyed it but couldn't finish it. The food was good ( not great but good), the only thing I can really complain about was the service. The place was not crowded at all. But we rarely had a visit from our waitress to see if we need anything. Soda, hot sauce refill? So that was a negative for me. She dropped the ticket off and took for ever to come back. So long my wife got up and went and waited in the car. I can say that we will most likely return to El Fenix, but might think twice about this location. Maybe your experience will be different. Read moreWell we almost left because the manager came to the table when I ordered as she overheard me ask for some fries instead of rice and beans. She said everything has to be counted and there is no way to do that in the system. Gimme a break. Then she asked what I was ordering and since it is the most expensive item on the menu she changed her mind. That shouldn't matter. We got our food and it was ok. Typical bland ordinary tex mex from a chain. Nothing special. The chicken enchilada I had was drowned in almost straight sour cream. It was so sour. I guess tex mex places don't know to use Mexican sour cream like Lala. It's mild. Mix that with some heavy whipping cream and add cheese and cayenne pepper....so yummy. Anyways they had 5 jalepeno peppers on the enchiladas and 4 of them were stems. I don't eat stem jalapeños. That's not food. That is trash. Well I asked them to replace the stems and I see him go to the computer to order more jalapeños and charge me. That's just ridiculous to give me bad food that is included and then charge me to replace it with something edible. Corporate companies are so strict about every little thing that employees aren't allowed to make a normal rational decision to be hospitable to a customer. It wasn't a bad experience just not a good one either and quite frustrating to see how cheap they acted...
Read moreAbsolutely, the worst experience I’ve have ever experienced in a restaurant. From start to finish, terrible. The service in the restaurant is laughable at best. My family walked in a 6:05, we were slowly greeted by the manager, she asked how many and then walked away and told us “one minute please”. We sat down in the lobby then were seated. It took about 10 minutes before we were even acknowledged at the table. We ordered chips and queso and the queso was watered down and lacked of any flavor. Finally we ordered our food and the wait began. Everything took forever. Drinks, chip refills etc. after about 30 minutes waiting, our waitress finally told us it would be longer than she first thought. I then told her just to bring our check for what we had received and we would leave. She even agreed that would probably be best. I take my son to the rest room and when we return, the manager is talking to my wife asking us to stay and that our food would be coming out in one minute. We sit back down and again, 10 minutes later it finally comes out. The entire restaurant was full of frustrated looking people and empty drink glasses. The manager did comp our meal and I took care of our waitress but overall, we were in the restaurant an hour and a half. This will be our last visit to El Felix...
