The food here is amazing. Do not let the reviews about the owner keep you from coming to this establishment. Sakura is owned by a Malaysian couple. Tiffany is the woman that people leave poor reviews about. A little about her: from what I have heard she is a professional chef who trained under some of the most prominent chefs in Hong Kong. Yes, she speaks quickly and firmly and is from a place where the culture of interaction is different than here in the US. Sensitive people would be offended by Tiffany but I advise you to chalk it up to her culture and enjoy the amazing food she provides. You can tell she loves what she does and she loves to feed people. Her memory is ridiculous; after just 2 visits she will remember you and your order. She also warms up a bit once she notices that you are a repeat customer. All of her sauces and soup broths are made in house. The tofu is homemade but comes from New York. It’s amazingly delicious; I suggest you try it. She flash fries it so it puffs up like a cloud before being stir fried in her dishes. Get the cashew tofu. It’s made with crunchy chili oil and...
Read moreThe hidden gem of Greenville. What's hidden behind a pasty, white, unassuming building is one of the best Asian restaurants in town. Every dish here is excellent. Yes, it takes a while to get your food (it has a very small staff), and yes, it's a little on the pricier side. But honestly, it's because of the quality and heart that they put into the food.
Just be careful when you ask for anything spicy - when they say it's hot, they mean it. 2-star is way hot enough for most people. 3-star personally has me crying. I have heard the stories of old about how people had to come multiple times and brave 4-star to even ask the chef to crank it up to 5. Those people were not coming there to enjoy a tasty meal, though. Ohhhh no. They were coming for the challenge and a long night in the bathroom. But I digress. The place is so good that it has become mythical.
Recommendations: the Singaporean curry noodle soup, the bibimbap, and the kimchi fried rice....
Read moreTHE BEST asian food in Greenville. She works hard and WILL remember your order. I call in at least 1x a week and sit down from time to time. The Pad Thai is my absolute favorite. You cannot go wrong with any of her appetizers. Everything you can order, is made in house as they pump out prep on the weekends. This restaurant is her life and if you’ve ever been here, you’ve had the privilege of feeling like part of the family for just a few minutes or so.
I’ve seen a lot of reviews related to “rude” staff. After getting to know the owner, she is such a genuine and caring person. You can tell that she genuinely loves to feed people her food and she WILL let you know if it’ll be over 30 mins. She will also let you know quickly, she will not do any special requests, add-on, take-offs etc. At first, I was taken aback. Now, I have realized I love cabbage. If you ever feel like she’s rushing you, it’s because she is.. She stays busy...
