BEWARE‼️‼️‼️‼️I went into this restaurant reluctant but open to trying a new place. The prices are HEFTY for the food. One chile relleno burrito is $18! If it was a phenomenal chile relleno I would happily pay that but the capeado (batter) of the relleno was not even prepared correctly. Anyway, if you are a diner with ANY allergies or special dietary restrictions one of the cooks (the one with braces) told me they WILL NOT ACCOMMODATE YOU when “busy.” Keep in mind this is a tiny restaurant that had no more than 4 parties in line at one time to order. I was SHOCKED when he said this because my mom ordered their Baja Tacos with the toppings on the side because she has several food sensitivities. He didn’t like that because they had a whopping five tickets on the line. I asked “so what do you do when someone has food allergies, say TOO BAD?” He said “yeah kinda.” I have NEVER in a dining experience had someone say they not only will not accommodate food allergies and restrictions but say “too bad” to someone who has them. Too each their own. There are places with authentic Mexican food that is phenomenal tasting, cheaper and with cooks who don’t get too overwhelmed to accommodate food restrictions. 🙄🤦🏻♀️
UPDATE: Please read the response by the establishment below. Perfect example of the type of customer service they have. If you will be dining at this establishment please bring medical proof of your allergies and restrictions as they will otherwise ASSUME you are a picky eater and as their cook said will NOT accommodate you 😂. Although if you’re paying $16 for a chile relleno and you request certain ingredients be left off go somewhere that will accommodate that, picky eater or not, it’s your money and you should have food served the way you request it. Save your money and the trouble and please dine somewhere else. Necio, Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant, Mukja Food Truck. All great...
Read moreUpdate 2 9/18/23: Idk what happened tonight or the last few times but the quality is sliding. New crew I've never seen and they need more training for sure. We threw our half of our meal away. The burritos were dripping in grease and nothing was mixed plus cold fries. My wife and I were eating gobs of sour cream. The churros were so overcooked they were almost burnt but yet soaking in oil. I think it's time to give this place a break for a bit.
Update 1: Started with the Taquitos and I figured that it was chicken or something.. Nah they blew my mind and put mashed potatoes in it! They got me hooked like your first crush and now I'll be dreaming of those taquitos. Second, I had the California with those oh so good pan fried carnitas! The fries they put inside are good.. so good! Like your first time good! Because it was my first time having fries in a burrito. Highly recommend it. Screw the hater review on here that said you can't put fries in a burrito. That dude is out his mind and must not like food. Un-American.
The wife had the same burrito, she's in love as well! I'm ok with this trio. She also got the Elote and I had a bite and it packed a ton of flavor! It had the right amount of cream! I think it made me... Yeah, I'll be back next week for sure!
Original: This place is FIRE! Finally a place that knows how to make carnitas with that pan fried crisp! Salsa is great, just enough spice for me. Queso is pretty good too with a mild kick, and a little on the thick side! Which good so it doesn't drip onto your shirt. Had the taco with carnita, queso taco "fire" with steak, and the vamprio with birria which was the icing on the cake! Very nice inside which I assume they will out grow once this new secret gets out! Open cook station, very clean and maintained. Super friendly staff! We'll be back here for sure! Can't wait to try a burrito with fries...
Read moreReally thought Carrera's lived up to the hype, especially for the price. Got some elote corn, Cali Burrito with Birria, Taquitos, Horchata and a Mexican Coke. Elota was pretty wet and almost like a creamed corn but some nice freshness from microgreens and radish. I prefer a bit more smoke and heat, but thought this was still quite good and much more substantial than you would have thought. I'm used to Cali burrito with avocado and some more veg options, wish they would even offer that as a paid add-on. That said, massive burrito for the price - definitely splittable with a friend - great tortilla, crispy fries, nicely distributed crema and salsa. I thought the birria was moist and tasted good, again, I wish it had a bit more smoke and heat. The consumme served with it was good though a bit more watery than I expected. I was very grateful they served two really excellent house made salsas with it. I thought the tomatillo was fantastic. Nice that they provide that and a rojo. My dining partner got the taquitos at the cashier's suggestion. Good call. Really substantial again for the price, delicious sauce and not overly deep fried tortillas. Sometime you get these and its like eating a hard taco shell, these were crispy on the outside with still some of the softness of the original tortilla and you could tell they are frying them themselves. I even thought the Horchata was a step up from most taco joints. It was silkier and richer than you typically get for this price and again struck me as house made. I'll definitely hit them up next time I'm in the area and look forward to trying some...
