Ahhh Sonic, only recently has there been one near enough for me to be able to appreciate. A drive in franchise, not usually the kind of thing you see outside of smaller, local places anymore. This one is in a particularly good spot right in the middle of the main line of shopping and restaurant centers straight off of Emerson.
The menu features a good variety of comfy food like variously topped burgers, and enormous hot dogs and coney dogs, in addition to some things you may not expect like fully sauced boneless wings. The honey bbq wings are quite nice, if a little tangy depending on your tastes. Their french fries are also wonderful, salted just right and very filling as here they're long and chunky with bits of potato skin still on them.
The drink menu is really where things start to shine here. As a person that loves customization in any aspect of my life, I find the drink selection alone a reason to come back. You can get specialized drinks of many flavors, or you can have them add the flavor syrup to any soda on the menu. Want to try an orange coke? Maybe a blue coconut Sprite (what?) How about a Dr. Pepper with cherry and vanilla in it? Well here, you can do any of that and more.
The ordering boards have really nice touch screens in them and great visual feedback of your order, even going so far as to track it through the time as they prepare it. It's interesting to get someone bringing your food to your car next to all this tech in the middle of a busy shopping nexus. They're pretty prompt too, delivering an order fresh quite quickly.
After all that, if you still have room for dessert, they have thick shakes and ice cream, sundaes and more, all with the same focus on customization. Like the idea of a Butterfinger loaded ice cream treat, but want it to have strawberry ice cream instead for some reason? Go for it.
TL;DR: It's a fantastic place to eat and watch the activity go by the busy surrounding all from the comfort of your car. They even have a drive-through if you want to eat elsewhere, which I genuinly didn't know till I got here. The price isn't too painful considering the choice and quality, and also the location, but you are obviously paying a slight premium...
Read moreOn February 26th 2021. We visited 1262 North Emerson Ave. Greenwood, Indiana. In the early evening hours we placed an order on the app (which we normally do for convenience) that totaled $74.87 (we have a family of seven) upon arriving to the location we was told that the system had just crashed and that they could not fill any orders or accept payment for new orders. We was told since our order wasn't fulfilled we wouldn't be changed... That was not the case... After the "hold" cleared our bank we contacted customer service (roughly 3 days later) we was told that our issue was escalated and we would get a refund in 7 to 10 days. After two weeks we called again and was told that our issue was still being investigated. On March 12, 2021 at 2:19pm we received a email saying our refund request was approved and we should see a refund and 7 to 10 business days. Again after 2 weeks we called customer service who said that the refund was submitted and we should give it a couple more days for our bank to reflect the credit. After a week and a half we called again we spoke with the supervisor who said she escalated our issue and we should receive a call in a couple days with information on the next step. (Keep in mind we have been in contact with our bank over this issue and who have said filing a dispute will be our next course of action) it is now May 4th 2021 we have yet to receive our refund, a call back or email. When we call we are told we are speaking to a manager and that we will receive a call back. There was no effort by anyone other than an apology we normally visited the two sonics in greenwood and Avon Indiana regularly we have not been back since. Come here if you enjoy your food being wrong, cold, melted, missing what you wanted or just entirely not your order. Come here if you like to waste money and time for a unforgettably terrible service. I don’t exaggerate.
Every single time I grow a shroud of hope that this Sonic has turned around, I come to only be disappointed, so come here if you’re into being disappointed.
Also note- they do not care, they clearly have a ton of issues in management and what seems like the little workers they have could not care or are too stressed from being overworked. I know from leaving this review, they most likely will just leave some generic apology response that includes some link to a website where you can’t even escalate it- and again they do not care. I called to try and get a refund for this excuse of service and without getting a word in was told to leave a message and they’d be back. So I did, but seriously. What kind of crap show is being run here?
Just do yourself a favor and skip it because the only thing you’re paying for here is a bad time and a damper on your day. If I make 1 person avoid this Sonic, I have done my job, but spread the word because I’m glad I spent like $30 and waited 20+ minutes PAST when they said they were bringing it out. Only for cold mozzarella sticks missing the marinara sauce (are you serious??), dry chicken, a shake so melted you could barely see the whip cream and a pathetically also melted sonic blast that was also clearly sitting out and forgotten. Why should you have always have to inevitably bring it to their attention that they screwed it up or you’re been waiting RIDICULOUSLY long. Just absolutely pathetic...
