Returning to Friars Tuck Tavern was like coming home to a warm embrace. Despite already being full, I couldnât resist a delicious proper pour. Which, I stand corrected from my review 11 months ago, which I wrote they pour a proper pint; I meant their Guinness is properly poured, while not the traditional 20-ounce pint like across the Atlantic, they are indeed properly poured. For those unfamiliar, the American pour still maintains the deliciousness of a true Guinness. Just a heads-up: while a proper UK (Ireland) pint is a generous 20-ounces, here in the States, a pint is a 16-ounce pour. But fear not, the flavor remains as rich and satisfying as ever! And again the ambiance here was perfectly complemented by the tunes, and the bartender Steve, was not just friendly, welcoming m, but also incredibly knowledgeable, attending to everyone at the bar with ease. A truly once again an epic experience! Now if you all ever carry the 20 ounce Guinness Glasses please drop me a note. đ Kudos to you all, epic place, epic staff. Thanks Gary and Amy for being in this community!
Oh, and a quick note this is my second review: I had to log on with another one of my emails from hookdontravel10, to leave another review, since Google only allows one review per account. Just goes to show how much I appreciate this tavern, was totally worth it! @hookdonlife
đ€ŠđŒI shouldâve asked like I usually do for a âproper pint please.âI stuck with reading the beer menu in screen. They do serve a proper pint, so do yourself a favor future patron and request it. Cheers, Amy & Gary thank you for the feedback, correction. Iâll be there this afternoon for a proper...
Read moreUsually love this place, I crave the scotch eggs, the tikka masala, and their âchipsâ!!! But I have GOT to say something as my husband and I had the worst experience at the bar today. We will never go back on a Sunday during the daytime. The female bartender clearly doesnât care about her job AT ALL! Spent more time laughing it up with employees in the corner then she did interacting with guests. Also spent more time out from behind the bar than she did actually doing her job. Took nearly 10 minutes for her to ask for our food order, finally got tired of waiting and flagged down another staff member. Never checked to see how everything was, instead decided to walk out from behind the bar and stand at a table and talk with an off work employee for the entirety of our meal. Also walked around and saw her drinking out of at least 3 different cups, not sure what it was but her eyes were pretty glassy when she eventually did come back by us. Only thing she actually did for us was bring me a box for my food (which sadly was subpar to its usual deliciousness). I say to everyone, go and enjoy the food just DO NOT GO on a Sunday during the day. You will get the worst customer service ever. And to the owner, you should rethink who you have as your bartender, she really did ruin our experience. My husband went so far as to say he would never go back...
Read moreWe stumbled upon Friar Tuckâs Tavern on a busy evening in Mystic when nearly every other restaurant required reservations or had long wait times. What a lucky find! From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. The service was outstandingâfriendly, attentive, and efficient without being overbearing. It felt like the kind of place where the team actually enjoys working together and taking care of guests.
The ambiance at Friar Tuckâs strikes a perfect balance between laid-back and lively. With its cozy medieval-inspired dĂ©cor, warm lighting, and inviting atmosphere, it felt like a hidden gem amidst the tourist crowds. Whether youâre just stopping in for drinks or looking for a full meal, itâs the kind of spot youâll want to return to. With so many places in Mystic packed or booked solid, this place not only saved our nightâit made it.
The food at Friar Tuckâs Tavern was just as impressive as the service and ambiance. Everything we ordered was flavorful and well-prepared, but the standout dish by far was the mussels. They were incredibly fresh, cooked to perfection, and served in a rich, savory broth that we couldnât stop dipping our bread into. Itâs clear the kitchen takes pride in using quality ingredients and bold flavors. If you visit, I highly recommend the musselsâyou wonât be...
