Port of Call and Dive Bar - An Epic Gem in Mystic, CT
Writing a review for Port of Call and Dive Bar in Mystic, CT, has been a long time coming. Having visited numerous times, I’ve experienced the magic and charm of this extraordinary venue on many occasions, becoming a barrel member in the process. It’s not just the unique cocktails or the vintage lounge decor that make this place epic—it’s the incredible staff and unforgettable events that truly set it apart.
From the moment you step into Port of Call, you’re transported to a bygone era. The vintage lounge decor creates a nostalgic ambiance, making you feel as if you’ve stepped back in time. The Dive Bar complements this perfectly with its laid-back, eclectic vibe. Together, they form a harmonious blend of sophistication and fun that is hard to find elsewhere.
The Dive Bar, in particular, is a treasure trove of history and character. The walls are adorned with old photos and dive memorabilia, creating a unique atmosphere that invites you to explore and discover. The Dive Bar also boasts a plethora of vinyl records you can request to play, adding a personal soundtrack to your evening. One of the most unique features is the photo booth, which has plastered the walls with photos taken by passing patrons, adding a touch of community and nostalgia.
The staff here are nothing short of phenomenal. Renee, the Executive Chef, crafts farm-to-table dishes that are as delightful as they are fresh, sourced directly from their own farm. Nancy, the General Manager, is incredibly attentive, going above and beyond to ensure every guest has an experience of a lifetime. Her dedication to making everyone feel welcome and valued truly elevates the overall atmosphere. Jade, the Beverage Director, curates an exceptional cocktail menu that is both innovative and timeless. Aubrey, the maître d’, welcomes guests with warmth and charm, setting the stage for a memorable experience.
Kylie, Aubrey’s sister, is a fantastic “Boss”who shines especially during themed events. I vividly recall a speakeasy bar and casino night in the Dive Bar where Kylie “The Boss”was in her element, flawlessly orchestrating the event and adding an extra layer of excitement to the evening. Her enthusiasm, humor and attention to detail truly brought the theme to life.
Clio and Scott, the Dive Tenders, serve drinks with epic personality, making every visit to the bar an unforgettable experience. Scott, in particular, brings a touch of humor to the bar, with his hilarious demeanor and stories to keep guests entertained. Clio, thanks to her I became a barrel member. So attentive to everyone too. Stephanie, the bartender at Port of Call, consistently impresses with her skill and friendly demeanor. Meeting these wonderful individuals has been a highlight of my visits, and there’s always a new face to get to know—like the amazing waitress/bartender I met this past Sunday June 30. Her energy and her knowledge from the food to drinks and how she describes them was just extraordinary—gosh, I wish I had asked her for her name, to give her better kudos here.
In essence, Port of Call and Dive Bar are not just places to eat and drink—they are destinations where memories are made and time stands still. If you haven’t yet experienced this epic gem in Mystic, CT, you’re missing out on something truly special. Trust me, one visit is all it takes to fall in love with this extraordinary venue and its amazing team. Clearly, I have!

Read moreGreat little place. Atmosphere is cool and swanky for small parties or a date. Dining for a variety of sized people is interesting and at times comical. Almost fell off my ottoman when Ieaned back while laughing. My sister had hit her head several times on the corner of her leather library chair. The atmosphere is very dark more like a thousand leagues under the sea dark but food was great, artistic and tastefully executed. Perhaps a lighted menu or a table library lamp to help read the menu would be a solution The owner or perhaps one of them may have been taking care of us she was warm, kind, very knowledgeable, accommodating, and went out of her way to ensure we all would be confident and enjoy our selections. She seemed to be taking great pride in her craft and was fast on her feet and excellent at coordinating our experience and all the other guests as well it seemed. Her pride in her work showed and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and time together there. My Mother enjoyed dinner with her family for her 70th. Thank you. 😘 The food and drinks were great. I especially enjoyed the fresh extremely delicious virgin lemonade she whipped up for me special. Don't leave without dessert! Best unique desserts ever that HONEY CAKE & FLAN was really special. My one suggestion would be adding a basic filet mignon or herb grilled chicken breast option for those grown adults who may be picky plain or non adventurous eaters. My one regret is not going into the lower level after we ate....we originally planned to but we ended up closing the restaurant down and being to full to bend over and shoot pool but it definitely looked like it would be alot of...
Read moreWe had a quick bite next door at the oyster bar, which was great (fresh oysters, an amazing chowder) then had a 9:15 reservation for dinner at Port of Call. The difference in experience at these 2 restaurants was wild. We were sat by the door near where there was live music. There was a $10 cover for a live jazz band that we didn’t know was going to be playing when we booked. This band was LOUD, this was the loudest restaurant I have ever been in. When our server came over they basically had to yell on our ears and I still didn’t hear a single word they said. It was too late to find another place to eat so we moved to the dive bar in the basement because they serve the same menu. We actually love dive bars but this reservation was for our 7 year anniversary dinner and we specially booked Port of Call because wanted to go somewhere cozy and upscale to celebrate. Instead we were now in a loud and very crowded bar that was only slightly more comfortable than the hellaciously loud main restaurant. Our only hope here was that the food would be excellent. My catch of the day was just fine. A small portion of fried fish plated with an obnoxious amount of lettuce. My partner got the carne asada… $58 for what was basically a small, cheap hangar steak cooked well done with some red sauce and sour cream. We left here feeling really overstimulated, sad, ripped off, and honestly duped. This place is a racket. Listen to your uber drivers and go to...
