So I have only written one Google review in my entire life. Aspen Dental a couple years ago and then second one will be today . Didn’t want to waste my time for reviews, but I feel this needed to be relayed to the public. Let me preference we ( my family ) have always loved Sea & Suds. We have been here for 4 years and visit often throughout the year. We support them in non peak season when they have to close a couple days a week because it’s dead down here. I’m 56 years old and Friday night July 4th was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. I was there with my wife, father and mom, who is 83 years old in a wheel chair from prior strokes. We arrived and there was a 45 minute wait which was completely fine. We put our name on the list and asked if we could sit at the bar (oyster) to keep mom out of the heat. The patrons opened up room for us which was incredible. We ordered four drinks. As we were sitting there one of the oysters shuckers gave us 4 oysters to sample to see if we wanted to order at dinner, because I love oysters and was bantering with him. It was a very nice gesture. After an hour I went back and asked why we didn’t get called and they said because you ordered food at the bar . I said no we ordered drinks and the chef back there gave us 4 oysters to be sampled . That’s fine . They said we will get you the next table, which was great. EVERYTHING would have been settled, but the manager Amanda Smith felt the need to walk by and scream the reason we skipped you was because you ordered food and we normally we don’t let people just wait at the bar. I said we didn’t order food, he gave us samples and the only reason we weren’t waiting outside was because of my mom is in a wheelchair and it’s 95 degrees and nobody ever said we couldn’t sit there. She was completely rude to my family. Was not going to throw out names, but since the manager Amanda Smith threw a piece of paper with her name, email address and owners name over my mom in a wheelchair in my face after we sat down at the table, I will. She said call my owner David. He would laugh in my face at us, because she has worked there 13 years and threatened me to email him, which I wasnt even going to do, but since she did that so flippantly, I will mention her name. She kept threatening me with cameras and I said please show the cameras. She Instigated a table ( her regulars ) and said she would call the LAW on me , my wife , my 80 year old dad and my 83 year old mom in a wheelchair. Not being dramatic, but again check the cameras as she kept threatening . We loved Sea And Suds, but her actions are unacceptable. Again please check the cameras . She was too aggressive towards our table and we had to leave, because mom was starting to have an anxiety attack and has been dealing with multiple strokes over the last 8 years, and we had to wheel her out and take our food to go. Again check the cameras. I have the piece of paper she threw at me on the table. Again please look at the tape. Yes things probably could have been handled differently on both sides. When I quietly asked our server for the managers name it never should have been escalated. After the server told her I asked for her name that should have been it. Professionally she should have let it go. But she felt the need to come to our table and again standing over my mom in a wheelchair and throw the paper at me. It was very sad seeing the look on my parents face. Needless to say our family or friends here will never support Sea and Suds again in peek or non...
Read moreMy wife and I were staying nearby and decided to give this restaurant a try for the first time. It is located on East Beach Blvd. not far from the intersection with Gulf Shores Parkway. It is set back toward the gulf and we really enjoyed the closeness to the water/beach. It was a Sunday evening and busy, but we got seated inside immediately since there were just the two of us. We ordered the Seafood Sampler/Platter to share and a couple of cocktails, a Rumrunner and a Pina Colada on the rocks. Drinks came out in approx. 8 ounce plastic cups. They were both good, but for $10 each they could have been better. We didn't have to wait long for our platter, which consisted of Oysters, Cod filet, Shrimp, stuffed crab, cup of gumbo and the usual sides of french fries, hushpuppies and slaw. The best part of the entire meal had to be the gumbo. Delicious! My wife is the only one who likes oysters, but they were mushy, so she didn't eat them. She ended up ordering a cheeseburger to go as she was still hungry. The cod was bland, but tasted better with tartar sauce (of course), which the waitress forgot to bring us. It finally arrived about 15 minutes after our food did. The shrimp was small, but tasted ok. The stuffed crab was good, but not much to it. After our meal we walked out on the deck, which was nice. They have a little Tiki Bar out there, so we ordered a couple more of the same drinks. Did not know they would be in 14-16 oz plastic cups = $13+ each (after tax). However, they were better than the ones we had inside. We stayed for about 45 minutes and left. A lot of folks rave about this place and I am sure it has it's off days, but this will probably be a one and...
Read moreI've added a couple of photographs to help you navigate from the parking lot across the street to the restaurant that sits actually on the beach.
Appetizers we ordered the half a dozen raw oysters and it's almost peak season for these lovely bites. They were nice and salty, you can taste the ocean and they were just delicious by themselves.
I ordered the fried seafood platter, and my wife had the all you can eat Mullet. Now for those of you who have never tried mullet, it is a flakey White fish basically used by the fisherman as bait fish. It is a very mild and delicious fish. Definitely worth eating. It is some of the best fried fish that I believe that I've ever tasted.
The fried seafood platter consists of, fried oysters, fried grouper, fried Gulf shrimp, a fried stuffed crab cake in a shell, french fries, hush puppies, coleslaw and a bowl of gumbo.
The fried stuffed crab would be the only reason that I didn't give a five star, it was just a little too much breading and not enough crab but the taste was definitely there.
My wife was in heaven with the mullet.
The service was excellent, and although they were short staffed, our server never let us run out of drinks and always checked on us.
It was a very family-oriented restaurant with delicious food, I would definitely recommend this place.
There is no parking for the restaurant on site, however, you have options...
