Tavern 61 — Restaurant in Hackensack

Ok. So. It’s Monday night! Hackensack. And I wanted something really good! And went to Tavern61!!! On River Street. Walked in and was greeted from a beautiful dark haired Italian bartender. Who’s on fire by the way. The drinks were made literally in the blink of an eye to perfection. The bar had the perfect temperature after a day of 100° weather. The atmosphere was so inviting with the music in the background that just entertained you to sit down and have a drink and stay. Of course being the food either I am I asked the owner if he could make me something special that wasn’t on the menu. Without hesitation he came out of the kitchen and said whatever you like we can do for you. The bartender turned around and was quick to say would you like another cocktail. I said yes! Sure. After getting the food and tasting it to perfection I was then offered an after dinner drink and a free dessert. The part tender who works on Mondays only. Her name is Katie. You must come and experience a Happy a Monday with her. I found out the Owner who was here tonight, named Gence!!!, has a specialty for food! You name it and he will ensure the kitchen will do their best to make you what you want. I have to be honest I was very skeptical about places in Hackensack as all the buildings are up-and-coming and the restaurants are not. This was our first time going to Tavern 61. The food was delicious, but unfortunately the service is not great except for one waiter who eventually took over our table . The servers need training ASAP . Maybe the day we went was a bad night or maybe it was just our luck that many of the servers were new or had no previous experience . Definitely very strange. The servers were scattered. Almost like they didn’t have assigned tables. We were asked for our orders at least 4 times by different servers and everything took a very long time. At one point, our first waiter was going to take our order, but told us he was going to come back because he didn’t have a pen. He never came back!. So after 15 minutes or so, another server came and finally took our order. When the food finally came, a third server came and asked how was the food? It wasn’t even 3 seconds passed since they brought the food and we didn’t even got a chance to try it. I’m not trying to be rude or disrespectful. Again, the food and atmosphere are great, but if you don’t go to the bar and want to dine in, expect craziness. I want to make a note that the server who eventually took over, was extremely apologetic, on point and very professional. He even took an item off the bill due to the circumstances. I want to go back but I will give them sometime to continue training...

Just had our engagement party here yesterday afternoon and couldn’t wait to tell the world how amazing this place was! The entire staff were so accommodating and kind, everyone is still raving about the food it was DELICIOUS. They have a sit down or buffet style option we chose the buffet. We also chose an open bar option that included hard liquor and they did not disappoint, it was definitely enough variety to make sure everyone could get something they liked. They were attentive, checked in to see if we ever needed anything but were never overbearing. The tables were always kept clean and empty dishes removed. We decided we weren’t going to do decorations or dessert since the place looked great on its own and figured with the food and open bar ppl would be happy and we were right! The whole time everyone kept telling us how good the food was lol they also allowed us to play our playlist through their speakers which we appreciated very much! I honestly do not have one bad thing to mention from our first interaction scheduling the date all the way through till payment after the party was over. They were always just a phone call away and understanding to any changes which I tried to make sure to give them enough time for a heads up as well. And most importantly everyone had a good time!
