This was bad. Think of every restaurant mistake you can, they made it. "Sure, 20 minutes" turned into 45, and they lost track of the order of people waiting. That will get you slightly grumpy, but it's redeemable if everything else is even adequate. The place is 1970s dingy and formica-ish. At least we knew that going in. The service was a fail. They were polite enough, but they have an incomprehensible division of labor between who can take orders and who can't, resulting in nobody checking in on us during the 25 minutes between the apps showing up and the main thing, even though we were drinking by the glass and they could have sold us a couple of extra glasses of mediocre wine each. Now to the food. The brussels sprouts app was mostly harmless, I suppose, but I definitely got the sense that the actual sprouts part of it had been in storage too long. I can't remember what other apps we had, though it was only four days ago. Then there was the long wait for four plates of pasta. Three of the plates had obviously been ready for 20 minutes and reheated. The fourth? Spag and meatballs. In a restaurant like this, if three plates are ready and the fourth is spag and meatballs, it should take two minutes to get the fourth ready. But no, they left three of them sitting under the lights or whatever so my pasta was dry, the very ordinary tomato based sauce was congealed, and the sausage was way overcooked. The other two plates were similar - pesto and alfredo turned to gloop. Even if they hadn't been left to dessicate for twenty minutes, they would have been very, very ordinary. Why not ask for a re-do? We had been there for what seemed like an eternity, and weren't keen on the idea of additional waiting. Needless to say, we skipped dessert. We left after paying way, way too much for a bad meal, and quite a lot too much for what I think this restaurant aims to be. The best part of the meal? The Culver's frozen custard we picked up on...
Read moreFound the food to be excellent, service was excellent, my only real complaint was the cost. Depending on what you order, the portion size seems to be just about right to possibly leaning a little bit to the conservative side.
Back to my complaint. Granted the food and the service were both excellent, and the portion size was certainly doable, the cost to portion size seems to be a bit off. We probably won't be returning, as a family; I just can't justify the expense. The bill for our family of 5, of which 3 are children, came out to a few cents under $75 for our meals, before gratuity. We didn't order anything fancy either, each of us ordered off the "classics" section of the menu, which was on the cheaper side in comparison to the rest of the menu.
I would certainly consider them again as good meal for the wife and myself, but never again...
Read moreI have lived in the area for twenty years and have only been to Gemignani's twice, most recently being for a complimentary birthday dinner. The Shrimp Alfredo was basically a plate of cream sauce with a few shrimp and very little fettuccine. They served me a hamburger bun as a dinner roll. My companion had a pizza which only came with cheese and you had to pay for each additional topping, so remembering the last experience that he had there he ordered extra pepperoni for five dollars. The crust was so thin and dry with very little sauce. What he didn't finish he took home, and for the first time in his life he threw it away when he got home. The old Chef Boyadi pizzas were better than this one. If not for the Finlandia students I doubt that this place would still be in business. I now know that I will never step foot in...
