My review just went from 5 stars to 2. I'll leave my original review at the bottom.
Tonight we went to Bob Evans for dinner. We just walked out. The lady that seated us left for a highchair and never came back. Standing there awkwardly trying to read the menu and my husband holding our squirming 2 yo, with the extra chair out in the aisle, someone finally took that and still didn't bring us a highchair, I had to ask again about 10 minutes later. Waited an hour for our food. Our kids (6 & 2) were screaming and ripping up their placemats by this point, trying to keep themselves occupied and starving, disrupting everyone around us, as young children do when asked to sit still and be quiet for an hour with nothing to do. Waitress finally comes back and offers to bring our kids COOKIES to keep them occupied with while we wait. I had to explain that our kids don't get cookies before they've eaten dinner. Finally our food is checked on and brought out, it was cold like it had been sat down somewhere and FORGOTTEN. Legit cold. We let the kids get their bellies full and we couldn't even eat our food. Their exscuse was "short staffed" yet all the people that came in quite awhile after us were eating and some had already ate and left before we got our food! They offered us 20% off for the wait when they brought the food and then when I asked for an explanation why we were served cold food with my first bite, they said no charge. 6yo's plate was hot but mine and husbands both cold. No charge?! Ya think?? If we aren't eating it, we certainly aren't paying for it.
I've been going to Bob Evans in Cadillac since the day they opened and I've never had such awful service. 😔
I will say the manager was polite and said she wished she had known sooner but the whole restaraunt knew besides her evidently, listening to us trying to keep our kids from being disruptive. And no one stopped at our table at all for a good 45 minutes. (She said they did call in a third waitress but they were not so crazy busy that this ever should have happened, there was many empty tables.) ..................
Original review - Bob Evans is always one of our top choices for breakfast, lunch, or dinner in Cadillac. There's been a couple times I've had to ask for home fries that weren't so overcooked recently, but otherwise I don't think we've ever had any issues with their food. Always quality food, hot, fresh and tastes amazing! Colette is usually our server and she's very attentive...
Read moreI really just hope I caught Bob Evans on a bad day. It's totally possible because I've never had such a disappointing experience before. I remembered the potato soup being a lot better (though I do admit it's been quite a while). It was nothing special and tasted of fake cheese. I would not order it again or recommend it. My half sandwich was a bit of a mess with burned bacon, the greasy bread was barely warmed/toasted/grilled, and it had a mashed lump of turkey slices that was cold. I expected a turky melt to be, well, warm and melty. The iced tea was lovely, the restaurant was very clean, and my waiter was incredibly attentive. I was eating alone with a book and he checked on me several times. It did get to feel a bit pushy when I was only half way done with my meal and brought me the bill then checked on me twice more. I'll admit I'm a bit of an introvert and might be too sensitive to such things but I would have liked to stay in the cozy atmosphere reading and sipping my tea a bit longer. I left not quite sure if a half hour was over staying my welcome or not. Was two hours until close a mistake on my part? Is there a polite way to tell a stellar server they don't have to be quite so attentive? I fully admit that this is probably just over thinking on my part. This is in absolutely no way a criticism of the staff. They were all delightful! No one at this Bob Evans will make you feel neglected. Not in the least! It's just unfortunate the service was so much better than the food. I'll give it another shot in the future, order something different, and update accordingly. Hopefully to a higher star rating! Like I said. It's perfectly understandable that off days occur and I'd bet that may what happened on my visit that resulted in such a sad sandwich. Skip the potato...
Read moreCan't rate the food because it never came.
It wasn't super busy when I got there, but it took the waitress over 15 minutes to even take my drink order. When those got to us, 10 minutes later, we put in our order for food. In that 25 minutes the place picked up a bit more customers. After an hour of no communication at all we (politely) asked about our food, to which the waitress got rude as could be telling us how the place is packed and we needed to wait. The rudeness was unnecessary, I'm a polite person and understanding. All I asked was if she might know how much longer it'd be. She told me she'd get the manager because my travel partner told her she didn't need to be rude. At that point I had noticed a group of people that came in after us had received their food already. I paid for our drinks and left. I don't mind waiting, even over an hour like I did, what I have an issue with is her rude response and the fact that we were being skipped over. Disappointing considering I usually love Bob Evans and was happy that I'd finally get a decent meal, or...
