Just finished having dinner with my friend and I just gotta say i had the most relaxing and best experience I've ever had at this restaurant. The waitress was very helpful and knowledgeable of not only the menu but the actual dishes. It says something when your server can acutely describe the food in detail and with enthusiasm. We ordered the calamari which she warned us came grilled not fried which was a nice touch didn't really care for it but i liked the fact that she went out of her way to let us know so we wouldn't be surprised. I had the gumbo and an order of cajun fries. One thing i don't like is the fries always come out almost burnt. Kind of like they have then sitting there and just drop then back in the fryer to heat them up. The gumbo was killer wish i would've ordered the bowl instead of a cup. The flavors blended really well and the spice wasnt over powering as sometimes people tend to do with gumbo. My friend ordered the cajun shrimp pasta on our waitresses recommendation and as soon as the plate came out I wanted it. I literally grabbed a fork and started trying it (rude i know but that's how good it looked) and the taste was amazing. The manager was going around table touching and you could tell he was being attentive since our waitress started getting a rush. Food tasted great, presentation was awesome, came out hot and didn't take long from when we ordered to when it came out. Next time i go im going to try the chicken pesto pasta. This was definitely a great way to end a stressful day.

Fosters Kitchen wasn’t really what I was hoping for. Seemed to be a lot of hype and didn’t really live up to it. Making a reservation online they call “waitlist”, when I registered online I was number 17 on the list. When I got to the restaurant there were so many open tables and people waiting. Ordered the stuffed mushrooms which were drowning in marinara sauce, just a little marinara sauce on the bottom would have been good enough. Main course I asked the waiter did he like the stuffed chicken or the seafood trio. I always ask recommendations from the waitstaff, he responded saying “the stuffed chicken is a bit too salted due to the ham, I’d go for the seafood trio”. Of course the trio is more money but thought sure why not I am on vacation. The fish of the day is mahi mahi, he said it was fresh. Crab cake and blackened shrimp, along with veggies and garlic mashed potatoes. The veggies looked good but I am not a fan of broccoli. The potatoes were pretty lumpy and I did not taste the garlic at all. The mahi mahi I felt was over cooked and small portions for what I was paying for, the shrimp was good and the crab cake was alright. I ordered the cowboy colada, it was tasty. Would I eat here again, probably not, the menu was confusing and not a lot of items were Hawaiian recipes. And speaking of the menu, old and worn, my menu was sticky and could have used a good wipe down and cleaned! Also the print on the menu was coming off making it look worn.

Kona has become the Myrtle Beach of the islands. With so many transient diners maybe there's just not enough local pressure to create food at a high level. The dishes look great. It's the finish that falls short, as in the taste and doneness. I had high expectations, based upon reviews and recommendations. After eating and walking away, I was left with a sense of displeasure. When you see a place bustling, you sort of have expectations. Good service and good food await, huh? Maybe on any other night than the one when I visited 🤔 It's hard to get into Foster's without a reservation, but I managed to sneak a seat at the bar. Craft cocktails 🍸 and an interesting menu had my culinary juices flowing. The place is not cheap, as well. The drinks were ok, not great and not bad. The real turn came with with the arrival of the food. One thing I have always loved about my visits to Hawaii is all the great fish and seafood to eat. Granted, I usually am well off the tourist trail, so maybe that had me jaded. The meal here was over cooked with average, at best, flavor. I cannot, in all honesty, see myself returning for another pricey average food experience.

We had a recommendation for this restaurant. We got right in with no wait. The view is good but also on what seems to be the main drag for drug deals as we watched at least 2 from our waterfront seat. But the water was pretty. The service was really slow. It wasn’t busy at all so we were a bit perplexed at the lack of service. But with that said our waitress was very nice and did get all of our orders correct. The bathrooms need a code and were filthy. They need to spend a bit of attention on them. Two of the three of us like our food very much. I had the pesto chicken pasta and really liked it. Very tasty. One of our diners had the fish sandwich with potato salad and thought it was very good. Our other diner had the Szechuan ahi and didn’t like it at all. He said it didn’t have much flavor. The tuna was seared and was drowning in teriyaki sauce. So weren’t for three on food. There is a paid public parking lot behind the restaurant and parking was super expensive. But at least it was a lot. Give this place a try if you are in the area, there are a lot of choices nearby but it is decent and they have a large menu. Something for everyone.
