I concur with all the other reviews. My husband and son walked across the street to get us some food. After perusing and all the options, they decided on fish tacos, fish sandwich, and poke from this food truck. They said the young lady was nice at first, key word “at first”, and chatted with them and asked them about their day. After my husband ordered 4 dishes: two orders of the fish tacos, one poke, and one order of a fish sandwich the total came to $85. Not cheap my husband used his card to pay. He declined the tip option, since he wasn’t eating there and just taking a to go container. He usually has cash on him and tips after he is served if the service is good. The lady flipped the screen around and made a face, then she flipped the screen back to my husband and said “is this correct?” my husband looked at it, and said “yes “. Then she said “I just wanted to make sure you didn’t accidentally hit that button “my husband looked at her at the screen and said “no, that looks right. “Then she proceeded to mutter, quite loudly, “wow” under her breath. Loud enough for them to hear. Both my husband and son said the her behavior was quite changed. After that moment she did not look at them again and even though many orders came after my husband and son, they brought out all of the later orders before theirs. As if being punished for not tipping. Tipping. Little did she know she might’ve been tipped in cash, but obviously not by the end. She made obvious conversation with other customers, and continue to give my husband and my son the cold shoulder. Here’s the kicker: when the food arrived, it was sadly not worth the price. At first glance it looked good. And what looked great was the garnish of chopped pineapple and purple cabbage. But after the first bite, we all noticed the mahi mahi was fishy. Definitely not fresh. My little son’s taco was actually quite dry and overcooked. Also fishy. The fish lacked seasoning and flavor. I had to pour the green sauce but it didn’t fix the flavor much. And finally, my tortillas were so soggy that I wasn’t able to pick up my taco. It flopped and broke and I needed to eat it with a fork and knife.. and that’s just sad. My husband’s fish sandwich had the same fishy taste and the fries served with it were both soggy and some way too crispy. The tortilla chips served with the tacos were nearly burnt and overall nothing tasted good. My son said his poke was mushy- and he enjoyed 808’s much better. None of us ate happily because not only did we not like the flavors, we were seriously concerned that maybe they purposely messed up the food due to an entitled attitude that expects a tip before ANY service is provided. Not to mentioned- not additional service aside from cooking the food and taking the order would have been provided. Tip culture is out of control. If I tip someone outside of a sit down meal, it’s only for service above and beyond. Kindness or extra customer service required. What entitlement to scoff at a customer for paying $85 for a few mediocre meals?? We recently ate at a nearby fish market, Fish Market Maui-now that was fabulous. I would say save your money and go there. This is not worth the money nor the awkwardness in dealing with the “front of the house”. Mediocre at best, and...
Read moreI am a guest of the island and heard the taco trucks were great. Was craving fish tacos, so I happily ordered some from the business.
The young girl taking orders was passive aggressively rude when asking questions to inquire more information about food. When asked how many tacos came in the taco plate because we saw the picture had three, she said two and we curiously asked why the picture shows three and she said, “It’s not my business mam, I don’t know”
We left and came back to give them our business then I said I would take the “taco plate”. She proceeded to put my order through as the fish plate because I used the word “plate”. This is after I confirmed what the fish tacos were served with. Got all the way to my hotel and sat down to eat and realized they gave me the wrong food.
I went all the way back, then got more attitude and was accused of saying the word “plate”, so apparently I was wrong. Just got a really bad vibe from the girl. She could have been having a bad day and customer service is hard, I get it. I’m a barista.. but there was just one too many digs and I don’t appreciate being treated so poorly when they are getting my business.
I hope an attitude adjustment occurs or the food truck owner realizes the kind of person representing the business and takes some corrective action. After reading a lot of the other comments on here it looks like I wasn’t alone in how I...
Read moreLast night they were out of poke so we ordered the Thai shrimp and fish tacos. Shrimp were served shell on and were delicious. The fish tacos had no flavor at all, I don’t even know how that is possible.
Outside of a dish having no flavor, the oddest thing was, the second that the woman taking orders saw that I didn’t tip last night, her attitude completely changed. No smile, she became agitated and treated me like a bum.
If I’m paying for food from a food truck or any establishment that doesn’t provide service and just hands me food, I don’t tip.
Their prices are very close to a brick and mortar’s but they don’t provide any service to warrant a tip, especially with that attitude.
Tonight I went back and ordered two poke bowls, one regular and one spicy. Minimal flavor again but I was able to get the same attitude! When I asked the woman what the sauce was in my order, she replied “it’s in there” I asked again and she walked away. The chef noticed and replied “It’s soy sauce”, it wasn’t soy sauce. At least he was nice but I will never go back.
Sad thing is, they know people come to Hawaii for poke and will order it no matter what and with minimal food options in this area, I doubt they will...
