My wife and I became very familiar with Johnny's Wingz N Tingz when we visited Kauai in August 2022. We ordered garlic parmesan french fries for takeout while enjoying a drink at the bar, we ate dinner in the restaurant one evening, and then we ordered dessert for takeout one night as well.
I would describe Johnny’s as your typical sports bar dive. This isn’t a knock against them at all. I am just saying it is a decent, reliable place to get some cold beer and decent bar food. The servers are all awesome and helpful. The first time we visited and were at the bar, the head bartender gave me a free beer as they poured one for someone else and for whatever reason they didn’t want it. I really appreciated that!
My first (and only) time trying loco moco was at Johnny’s when we ate dinner there on Aug. 12. I didn’t finish it all but it was nice to try the famous Hawaiian dish. The French fries were good, both the ones we ordered for takeout and the plain order my wife got with her wings. We also ordered mozzarella sticks which were a little on the smaller side but still decent. Our dessert was a real treat to enjoy in our Astor Islander room. The server who boxed it up for us was also the server who waited on our table the night before. I wish I remembered here name but she is heavily tatted and does a great job. Bottom line, if you are on vacation but crave a sports bar that is probably a lot like one you have back home, give Johnny’s Wingz N...
Read moreCalled in an order on the drive home from Kalalau, given a pick up window of 30 minutes which worked out well for us. Got there, received by friendly hostess, got a weird surprise that they charge an almost 4 percent credit fee BUT they had already factored it into the bill (wise). Got the food back to the hotel within 5 minutes, still warm not hot. We ordered the Johnny's spicy dry rub wings, which had great crisp and a great flavor combo of sweet, spicy, and salty, as well a Wagyu and Angus burger which were cooked perfectly. Fries were OK but a little soft for my liking; the wife loved them. So far we were happy... we also got the brownie which looked great... until we went get our first bite and snap went the fork... the brownie was rock hard and burnt... it was so hard I couldn't break it in half with my hands... I had to microwave it to get it semi soft and it tasted terrible... but at least the ice cream scoop was good. Considered 3 stars because that is pretty bad in my book to serve inedible food (it's also not cool to charge credit card fees, while we did not ding the servers tip I know many travelers do) but it wasn't in the...
Read moreI ate here my last trip and had the loco moco. Very good. So were the wings. This time I tried the prime rib which is only served on Sundays after 5pm. Not as good as I had hoped but meat was very tender. A little heavier on the seasoning than I would like. I ordered medium rare. All in all what you might expect from a bar serving prime rib. The baked potato was a tad undercooked possibly boiled. Could have done without the salad. It did not help the meal. The reason I ranked the food at a four though was the apple cobbler. That dessert was delicious as advertised. Even though I was not as excited with my dinner I left happy because of that dessert. Sorry no picture. Dessert was half gone before I even realized I had not taken a photo. Besides no picture would do it justice. Delicious. Service was ok. I think they started the dinner hour off with only one waitress but another joined as our meal was wrapping up. This place has a very calm quiet atmosphere and is easy to have a conversation with your...
