The Donut House – Where Hope Goes to Die Glazed

Somewhere between a fever dream and a misguided Pinterest board lies The Donut House — a name that conjures warmth, indulgence, maybe a hint of nostalgia. But what you get instead is a sad, half-hearted sugar mirage that makes you question your life choices by the second bite.

Let’s start with the chocolate cake donut — the beige wallpaper of baked goods. Dry. Flavorless. As exciting as a Monday morning staff meeting. It’s the kind of donut that makes you check the date on your receipt and wonder if they handed you something from last week’s batch, reheated with a prayer and zero shame.

Then there’s the maple bacon bar — the main event, the headline act, the abomination. Imagine if a cafeteria maple bar and a strip of chewy gas station bacon had an unholy tryst in the back of a microwave. That’s what this is. The bacon doesn’t crisp, it limps. It drags across your tongue like a wet sock soaked in disappointment. The maple glaze? Sickly sweet and chemically tan, like it was focus-grouped by people who’ve never tasted maple syrup or joy.

This isn’t culinary innovation. It’s the stuff of dumpster fires — and not even the kind you warm your hands over. The Donut House doesn’t just miss the mark — it’s firing blanks from the bottom of a flavorless pit. Save your money, your time, and your palate. Even the gas station down the road knows how to fry dough with a little dignity.

1 star — and that’s me being generous.

Food, like life, is an adventure—sometimes a thrilling ride, sometimes a slow-moving disaster. This one? More of a tragic misstep, like a tourist ordering fugu from a guy with a twitchy eye. But hey, we eat, we learn, we survive—mostly. Until next time, may your meals be memorable for the right reasons. Join me at Northwest Chef Food Reviews on Facebook for better food...

Our friend wanted to celebrate his birthday at a big out door event in hayden idaho and he wanted donuts instead of traditonal cake. Not being from the area we were stuck.. until we found the donut house. Oh my goodness. We ordered 2 .5 dozen glazed with raspberry filling. And another 2 dozen bismark- chocolate frosting with custard filling- in Canada known as a Boston Cream. They were fresh and tasty and so so so good. Everyone was ravving about the donuts for several days!! Saying they were the very best! While travelling to the home of the tastiest treats we called in to see if we could pick them up earlier then planned. Since we were travelling thru spokane and heavy traffic snarled us when i reached the store they couldnt hear me. Wyatt the owner called me back. He figured out it was me even though the person who took down my order wrote my number down wrong. He figured out how to calll me back anyways. They were ready early for me which was awesome... Wyatt figured out I had been slightly overcharged, another miscommunication and he quickly corrected it without me having to ask. I value and appreciate the honesty. Sincerely. The hardest part was getting all of these donuts to the park but we managed to do so very carefully. Donuts were enioyed by all and our friend had enough to take home for his family to enjoy!! We loved it here. Great prices, kind, honest staff and excellent donuts. We cant recommend this place enough!! Wyatt and his team of thoughtful kind humans and the excellent donuts are exactly what the world needs right now! Thanks for making our friends birthday truly memorable! Well...

When I found out this place does gluten free doughnuts I about lost my mind! As a diagnosed celiac of 10 years I'm always on the look out for new places to eat at and try! Although the doughnuts that were available were the standard flavors they were WONDERFUL. Legitimately the best gluten free doughnuts I have found yet! Especially the texture! ONLY downside I found was the flavor in the glazes, they lacked a little flavor. The chocolate was yummy but slightly lacked that chocolatey flavor and leaned heavy on the sugary sweet and thus followed, strawberry, glazed, maple. The best gluten free doughnut as far as texture, flavor, and overall all apperence was the vanilla! Which has the most prominent vanilla flavor and awesome texture. Honestly 4.8 stars for this places gluten free doughnuts if those glazes could be perfected my goodness yall would be unstoppable! 100% coming back though for those vanilla gluten...

My black coffe was excellent but the barista, Alex, was kinda rude. I tried to talk to her about my day and tell her about my conversation with my extremely beautiful girlfriend the night before but she did not listen to me. Her boss was standing behind her and I think he wanted to hear what I had to say but I couldn’t tell. I give the black coffe five stars but Alex Roach (yes I looked her up), I give you 4.9 stars. Maybe you should listen to my stories next time. I have a life too you know See attached for pictures of the coffee, it was great.

I was slightly disappointed with The Donut House. It falls short of other donut shops in the area. I feel there are better options out there. I got the blueberry fritter. Although it was good, there wasn't really anything special about it. It was small and very thin. The staff was friendly and patient as my family and I chose our donuts. My complaint is with the donuts. They tend to be on the small size compared to other donut options in the area, plus they don't have a large selection. Taste is fine, just nothing amazing.
