Monday, June 30th 2025 around 5:30pm: I joined 4 friends to celebrate a birthday in our group. I had been looking forward to our dinner together for over two weeks. The food was amazing as usual and the staff friendly.
However, the "overboard service" started with our appetizers. I was telling a story so I was a little slower than the others and while I was sharing the wait staff whisked away our appetizer plates with the sauces that went with my appetizer -so I didn't get any! No one asked if we were finished, they just took the plates while I was still eating!
During different points of the meal we had 3 to 4 wait staff, once 5, all at once at our table while we were trying to have a conversation. It gets very chaotic when so many wait staff are at a table especially when we were trying to enjoy our meal and our conversation...
Most restaurants do great with one or two wait staff. Why so many people at our table?! Why create chaos at our table when we are trying to enjoy our meal with our friends? What is the purpose of rushing us when the restaurant isn't at all full?!
Then wait staff brought out to-go boxes and our birthday friend had just barely put down his fork when plates started being whisked off the table (without asking if we were finished)... then another member of staff shows up wanting us to pay our bill...this time FOUR wait staff at our table while we were still attempting to enjoy each other's company and conversation despite near constant interruptions by wait staff...
As I was paying the bill another wait staff TOOK my entree and she took my rice (usually we are offered extra rice) and she took our naan. I was in the middle of putting my meal in the to-go box, when I was interrupted by needing to immediately pay the bill. My food that I paid for was taken before I was finished and while I was distracted by paying the bill...Unbelievable. And NO ONE asked if they could take my plate, or the other plates...
What's wrong with putting the bill on the table and allowing the customer to pay the bill in their own time instead of showing up expecting "immediate" payment when we had just barely finished our meal?!! It might be somewhat common but it's discourteous.
We had just barely finished our meal and we didn't even get asked if we wanted dessert. We were just hustled out. So much for savoring the experience! We had been in the restaurant maybe 40 minutes! There where empty tables, no one was waiting for our table... I know Utahns "speed dine" but this is no excuse.
When you go to a restaurant you want to enjoy the whole experience and at "your own pace"-NOT the wait staff's pace. The restaurant staff stole my meal before I had a moment to put all of it in the box. So my food was wasted, thrown in the garbage -and our meal wasn't cheap! Yes, I felt ripped off!
One staff member apologized and brought a plate of naan for compensation for rushing us and told me to write a review, but it was small compensation-I wanted the rest of my entree -and a nice peaceful experience with my friends.
I doubt I return to Little India despite their...
Read moreThe food was pretty bad for an Indian restaurant. The curry base was the same for butter chicken and paneer masala, which doesn’t make sense, why have different curries then if they all taste the same. The butter chicken is supposed to have creamy cashew base and paneer masala is supposed to have bell peppers. It was also not garnished well, with cilantro or anything. The garlic naan seemed to be cooked on a tawa instead of an oven, so tasted more like a chapati and was not fluffy at all, which is what a naan is supposed to be like. The chana roti was laced in oil, which is not the way to cook it. I know chana roti is difficult to cook because of lack of gluten, but you are charging 6$ for it so you should make it perfect. Then the rice was probably the worst I have tasted in any Indian restaurant. It was some cheap sticky rice, instead of the usual basmati, that too overcooked and sticky. The menu says its cilantro, but it is actually cumin rice, that too without any flavor and raw cumin. The mango lassi was extremely sweet and had food coloring in it and watery. Not worth it for $6.
Overall, the food was very bad, it seemed like the cook doesn’t know how to make indian food. Which is what you need to do when you are charging that much. We didn’t eat any of that crappy food. I would recommend getting indian food at Bawarchi’s in Salt Lake instead. Our server Zeidi was really nice and understanding, she deserves a raise for how well she handled everything.
Update in response to the owner’s shit comment: the server Zeidi agreed with what I said about my order being wrong as opposed to what the menu described. I paid for my order, but decided not to consume such crappy food. A bunch of fake reviews don’t make the food good. Learn to take criticisms and improve your food if you want people’s money. Learn something from the dairy keen next door, they serve great food and have great service and prices. So does bawarchi in Salt lake for indian food. The owner didn’t contradict any of my criticisms about their food, they didn’t say which item was good that I claimed was bad, which means you agree that I am correct in my description. You are a new restaurant so don’t call yourself an established one. I do cook much better food than the crap that you serve people that is true, so does Bawarchi if you ever want to try quality...
Read moreI live in Cottonwood Heights down in the SL Valley, but have friends that live in Heber that I visit and house sit for regularly. They told me about this place and after going once, I now make it a point to go at least once EVERY time I’m in the area. I’m obsessed with the Pineapple Chicken and garlic naan. My 3 year old daughter will even chow down (which is a feat in itself most of the time). I want to try other dishes, but they do such a good job with the pineapple chicken that I haven’t brought myself to. 😂 The Mango Lassi, Indian Tea, and Indian Coffee are all delicious beverages depending on what you’re going for. I wasn’t sure how I’d like a pastry soaked in rose syrup, but the gulab jamun was refreshing and delicately delectable. My partner got a lamb dish of theirs and said it was really good as well. He’s a manager of a restaurant at a ski resort and was impressed with the presentation, speed, and temperature of the food, so that’s saying something. He seldom wants to return to many restaurants and even made it a point here to tell them we’d definitely be back. The only downside out of all my experiences was that we got there 45 min before close tonight and we could tell they were really anxious for us to leave, including turning the music off 15-20 min prior to the closing time listed on the door. We were still out the door a few minutes before “close”. Aside from that, everything is always above and beyond and phenomenally delicious here. I only wish there were a location closer to where I live. Still...
