My hubby and I were looking to celebrate an important milestone in our lives, and we chose to do so at what used to be our favorite BBQ restaurant. Unfortunately, this experience left us completely disheartened.
We walked in with high hopes, expecting the great food and service we’d come to love. But from the moment we arrived, things began to unravel. We were initially greeted by someone who seemed to be the manager — he was using a walkie-talkie to communicate with staff but admitted he had no idea what was happening and was only at the host stand to cover for the actual host I completely understand this, as the host usually has full control of the seating rotations and is familiar with the wait list and special requests - I probably just would admit that. Howver, when the host returned, he seemed visibly unenthusiastic to be at work, as with the rest of the team also having no sense of urgency when carrying out any kind of duty. Another staff member came to assist, oddly carrying a hand towel, and seated a solo guest. During this process, he accidentally dropped the towel on the floor. When this was pointed out, he casually kicked it aside to finish seating the guest, then picked it up and continued to wipe down tables with it. To my dismay, we were then seated at one of those very tables. Despite my husband’s plea to let it go so we wouldn’t ruin our evening, I couldn’t ignore the hygiene concern.
Hoping things would improve, we were greeted by our server, Frances, who did his best and remained attentive throughout. However, the overall experience continued to decline. Our dinner biscuits, which usually arrive promptly, were only served midway through our meal. While I understand this likely wasn’t within Frances’ control, it still contributed to the disappointment.
It’s hard to imagine returning, even though we came this time because friends had kindly gifted us certificates knowing how much we used to enjoy this place. Sadly, it seems the restaurant has lost the charm that once made it special.
I strongly feel the management team needs to seriously revisit their standard operating procedures if any, and have fully enforced. The level of service has really fallen downhill. Cleanliness, attentiveness, and a positive attitude go a long way — service truly is the backbone of any successful...
Read moreI ordered the 3-meat combo with mac and cheese and a half order of onion straws delivered via Doordash.
When I opened the bag, my combo was in a container sitting on top of a large covered foil tray.
I pulled the BBQ out and checked for accuracy (everything was perfectly correct), then I pulled this Stouffer's Family-Size Lasagna tray out the bag and opened it to find my "half order" of onion straws. I squealed like a 3 year old who just got a puppy. I wept with delight, anticipation, and slight anxiety for my gallbladder. I can only imagine the full order is delivered by a series of box trucks over several hours as the onion straws are prepared fresh.
Starting with the BBQ, I got the sliced brisket, 3 babyback ribs, and the bacon cheddar sausage. The ribs were tender and juicy. The sausage was an excellent consistency and very flavorful. The brisket was tender. It was a tad dry, but brisket can be tricky under the best circumstances and I don't usually classify chain BBQ restaurants as "the best circumstances."
I don't mean to slur most BBQ chains, but they don't tend to put as much attention to detail into their prep as small, individually-owned BBQ restaurants. This, however, was definitely one of the best chain Que meals I've ever had!!
Critiques: Everything was sauced. I prefer my BBQ with just the dry rub it was smoked in and give me the sauce on the side to use as needed. Good Que doesn't NEED a sauce and, in many cases, it's used to cover up a subpar product. This meat seemed like it would've been good by itself. The sausage, especially, would have actually been better without the glaze on it.
The mac and cheese was pretty pedestrian. Very casual-dining-cliché. But I can't blame them for focusing more on a good main product (smoked dead animal)!
Praises: Just about everything else. The portions were good (except the onion straws which was amazing!!). The biscuits with cinnamon butter made for a great "dessert." Even the plasticware had thought put into it, as it was sturdily made so as not to bend when trying to cut your food.
Next time I stop through Vegas, Lucille's will definitely be on my list again!!! Absolutely...
Read moreI will begin my review of this restaurant by stating that they are pricey as hell! I think I spent $165 including a $20 tip for the server Nicole because she was amazing! (keep reading) That being said, the food was phenomenal!!! My mother and two of my sisters were visiting me in town, so I went to this restaurant on recommendation of one of my professors from UNLV.
I ordered a plethora of things in a menu item called The Family Supper. There was so much food! Did I mention how much food there was? I'm sorry, but I neglected to mention that there was so much food, that the four of us did not finish it all! There was enough food on that gigantic platter to probably feed 7 or 8 people, maybe? The platter came with several St. Louis style ribs, pulled pork, greens (that needed a bit more seasoning), grilled/barbecuedchicken, and perhaps one other protein.
Additionally, we received three gigantic sides: the greens I mentioned, a gigantic bowl of macaroni and cheese that they loved, and we ordered a family size of seasoned french fries!
Furthermore, I ordered some deep-fried dill pickles for an appetizer and they were good, too. My only real gripe was with the pre-dinner biscuits. Unfortunately, they were very dry and hard and seemed doughy and kind of old. Even smothered and that tasty cinnamon brown sugar butter, it didn't seem to make a difference.
Finally, as I mentioned earlier, I gave our server Nicole a $20 tip! She was outstanding! She did everything we needed and more. I asked for some fresh, hot towels to clean our hands before the meal and she brought those. My mother asked for a cup of hot water for our silverware and she also brought that. Moreover, I secretly asked her to bring something for my sister's birthday and she did that! Kudos to Nicole!!!
I definitely plan to return to this restaurant in the future. If you've never gone, do yourself a...
