Attagirl is a relatively new spot in Hermosa Beach, taking over the location that once housed a Mexican restaurant. The menu has shifted toward Middle Eastern–inspired flavors, with dips, breads, and shared plates that make it a good choice for brunch or lunch.
We began with a platter for the table featuring a variety of dips, and rosemary focaccia. It worked well for sharing and set the tone for the meal.
At our table, two people ordered the shakshuka and really liked it. We also had a pasta dish that was filling, with a good portion size.
Two salads were ordered. One came with an interesting mix of ingredients but was weighed down by too much dressing. The other was heavier, topped with feta cream and pita. We couldn’t finish it, but the addition of stone fruit gave it a distinctive touch.
We chose not to order any drinks.
The restaurant was busy on a Sunday afternoon, and reservations proved necessary. Our group of six was seated comfortably, though the food did take a little while to arrive. The staff were warm and accommodating, and substitutions were handled without issue.
Parking was convenient with a valet option next door, or the $5 lot across the street, which gave us three hours. We chose the latter, and really lucked out on finding parking in the lot (it did take a little time, and we were slightly late to our lunch meet)
Overall, Attagirl feels like a solid new addition to Hermosa Beach. The menu has some variety to suit vegetarians and enough variety for meat eaters, and while a couple of dishes felt unbalanced, there were definite highlights. Friendly service and a lively atmosphere made it a pleasant place to...
Read moreWe were able to snag a last minute reservation and I’m so glad we did! You wouldn’t know that this place just opened based on how well things were running! The food was just absolutely amazing! I wish I had taken pictures. In the words of the legendary Guy Fieri, welcome to flavortown! The Roasted Spiced Eggplant was so flavorful with the garlic and herbs and the pita was so fluffy. The Octopus a la Plancha wasn’t bad, the octopus was cooked well, though I did feel the mustard aioli could use a bit more flavor. The potatoes in it were super tender! The Spiced Lamb meatballs though were just fantastic with the harissa as was the Atlantic Salmon skewer. We got the zhoug as our sauce and it was perfectly balanced in terms of spice, it just has a nice little kick! Of course had to get the Brussels Sprouts and they were just delicious. Finally dessert we had to get to go because we were too full and our lovely waitress (Christie, I believe her name was) ended up sending us home with both of the desserts we were between, the Basque Cheesecake and the Chocolate Torte and my god they were both amazing! The pistachio ice cream also had this added cherry flavor and it was just perfection.
Almost forgot drinks, but they were lovely as well! The guava bourbon smash and the Negroni with orange infused Campari were delicious!
I realize this sounds so intense for a review lol but truly loved this food and the service! Will be back soon and it’s going to be hard to try new things when I’ll want to get everything...
Read moreI didn’t even know I liked Mediterranean food until now. This was the best hummus and pita bread I’ve ever had before and I didn’t even know lamb would go well in a Bolognese but oh my god, this was a wonderful test to make sure I didn’t lose my sense of taste from COVID because the flavors of everything were out of this world. There were layers to them, like, umami but better. I’m Irish we are very particular about how we like our potatoes, and even the fries were cooked to perfection. The cocktail I had, the Amalfi Crush, was delicious: refreshing and flavorful without being overbearing or too weak. I don’t know how they made everything this good.
The service was perfect. Is it a requirement for everyone here to be so attractive but also polite and professional? Shout out to Kristie for being an awesome server and giving me some great recommendations for my first time dining here. The ambiance is great too. If they served bags of poop lit on fire I would still want to hang out in here just because the restaurant is designed so well, I like eating in here.
I actually wasn’t paid for this review. But none of us will make it out of this world alive and if I can make your life better by convincing you to experience this amazing restaurant you will be better off for it, as I am now. You ever eat something and you can just tell it was made by people who really, really care? That’s what this place felt like and you could taste it. Perfect date night spot. Trust...
