Ambiance is nice, could use some music maybe better artwork. Menu at a glance very easy to read, self explanatory. Prices are really fair in my opinion. There might be a slight language barrier depending your server but that’s always a good sign. If anything our waiteress came off a bit rude which if the food is AMAZING, then that’s that but if the food is just BASIC well…. I’m here w my partner and while i wait, i ordered about 4 out of the 6 appetizers that they have here. The other was a salad (not very interesting if you ask me) and then the summer role, didn’t really peak my interest. From the Bahn Mi aka the sandwiches i ordered the smoke brisket one, it sounded the best. The special…. not a fan of the idea of a “patty” baguette right now and didn’t want a grilled sandwich either. Have yet to order our mains, the most exciting part! And we will not be ordering from the vegetarian menu this time. Depending how the night goes i’ll let you know whether or not this is a MUST-GO-TO in hoboken or simply a place to visit if you find the time. Some plates have just arrived! Crab spring Roll TO DIE FOR! Turned it into a lettuce wrap, added sriracha and chili oil along with the duck sauce for an extra kick, and let me just say i need 20 more! So many negative reviews as well on the Bahn Mi but as my partner put it “people don’t know what they’re talking about”, perfect amount of meat and the bread is crunchy like a cuban sandwich! Has a sweet and savory bbq flavor to it, me being me i just had to add some spice! Base on my conclusion my partner was right not stale at all, it’s pretty good! STOP, dip it in the sweet fish sauce IT TASTE SENSATIONAL, like those episode of food wars where they taste the MC cooking! The VIETNAMESE GLAZED CHICKEN WINGS, LORD TAKE ME NOW, IT WAS HEAVEN SENT! WISH THERE WAS MORE OF A CRUNCH BUT THE FLAVOR WAS AMAZING. And let’s just say my partner and I are a bit of a connoisseur with wings, we’ve traveled to the city and other place all around just for them and these were pretty dam good, that you have to come here just for the wings! For a drink choice i got a peach sparking and it’s so flavorful! You can really taste the peach, i’m not much of a seltzer drinker cause it tend to hurt my throat but it was fizzy enough for even someone like me to enjoy. Now onto the mains, i got the special pho and my partner got the make your own pho w rare beef. We both added extra extra chili oil for spice, the veggies, some basil and lime! AND WHEN I SAY YUMMY, my tummy agrees! Our final appetizer came out the ribs, we did have to reorder them cause she forgot to put it in but def worth the wait! They’re, “finger licking good”, the sauce that’s on them is so good, and flavorful you don’t even need to add anything to it, we did lettuce wrapped them and thought rice would be a good side w them if anything. My partner said it was the perfect amount of fat/meat ratio and i hav to agree. I wasn’t really feeling dessert this time around especially since we were getting beers after this but so far the meal is a 5 out of 5. Service i’ll have to give them a 3.8 Bill was around $98 for ALL THE FOOD WE GOT AND I GAVE AN EXTRA $12 for the tip. Would’ve given more if she was bit nicer.
Is this a MUST GO TO place in hoboken, i wouldn’t necessarily say so. BUT if you’re in the mood for any kind of vietnamese food this is probably your best bet at authentic food with an angry little Vietnamese lady aggressively gesturing at you, THEN YOU...
Read moreI recently dined at Bahn Pho, and had a very disappointing experience. Before the bad, I want to acknowledge that the food was pretty good. I had the special pho and the broth was flavorful and the meat tasted good. However, that’s unfortunately where the good parts end. We came in with a group of 5, and were told to push tables together ourselves, and were given water that was lukewarm at best. When the server came to took our order, she seemed to not understand what we were asking for, and when we politely asked her to read back the order to double check she just said “No.” I understand that there may be a language barrier, but if you are the only front of house staff for a restaurant, having a grasp on the language is important. The food came out quick, and without much trouble. Unfortunately, in my dish there was a hair. Upon bringing this to the attention of our waiter, she took the hair off the plate I had placed it on and walked away. At the end of the meal, one person walked up to pay and told her he’d be paying for the entire table. She still split the bill even after explaining to her that we wanted it all on one, resulting in us paying their 4% credit card fee 5 times. Before paying, we asked again, still were told to just tap and it wasn’t fixed. My friend, who speaks Vietnamese, translated what was being said while we were paying. “These kids. They don’t know how to behave in public. I bet they won’t tip.” Firstly, in a town with a college nearby, accommodating college kids should not be a burden. Secondly, we tipped 20%, which was generous for this service, and all of the employees could see that.
Overall, the food was pretty tasty, but the service made me regret dining here and I will not...
Read moreAmbiance (4/5): The interior is minimalistic and tight. However, the venue is bright, clean, and cozy. The tables sit on top of each other. Service (4/5): We walked in around 7:30 on a Saturday and luckily was seated immediately but the restaurant was at full capacity. There were 2 people on the floor running from the kitchen and manning the front so they were absolutely slammed with the rush hour of evening peak dinner time. Scan the QR code on the check to pay instead of waiting for them to check you out. Banh Mi (4/5): Overall, the banh mi was delicious. The lightly pickled carrots and daikon gave the sandwich a crunchy bite among the creaminess from the mayo. My qualm was that the bread was a bit dry and chewy at the same time. Wish the meat was more flavored and had cucumbers. Pho (5/5): Wow the broth has so much flavor, depth, and umami! The bowls were very generous on the portions of noodles and protein ($15-16). The rare steak cuts were silky and soft. The side platter came with bean sprouts and mint. Bo Hue (unrated): This was not for me as the dish usually contains some shrimp paste (I could taste it). The spice level was great and had a ton of variety of proteins. Warning: Sadly both my boyfriend and myself had stomach issues for the remainder of the night. While we did not experience pain, rank gas and a few trips to the bathroom for relief (Dined...
