Honestly I feel like half the bad reviews here are just talking about the eerie similarities to Los Tacos No. 1 and not addressing the actual food or experience at “Mexico Tacos.”
To address it— I thought the tacos were quite good! I got the chicken taco and the Al pastor quesadilla. The chicken taco was a little over salted but otherwise pretty solid, and the Al pastor quesadilla was really flavorful. While these may not have been the best tacos I’ve ever had in my life, they were definitely some of the best I’ve had in Hoboken, and very comparable to the NY chain. I wasn’t a fan of the guacamole though, it could’ve used more seasoning and tasted a bit acidic, especially for the price. I also enjoyed the horchata agua fresca.
Additionally, it’s not a sit down place but I thought the service was quite good, fairly organized and the staff were all super kind. Everything was very clean too. I will say the prices though were a bit ridiculous, even for Hoboken.
Truthfully while I don’t think they’re beating the allegations about ripping off Los Tacos, who cares! It’s a solid taco spot in a city generally lacking food variety. I’d definitely go back, though I do hope they reconsider some of...
Read moreHaving grown up in San Diego for 20 years where I ate Mexican food daily, along with frequently traveling to Mexico currently, I crave Mexican food everyday and have never found anything that comes close to resembling authentic Mexican food in the area. This is FINALLY it. This place has it absolutely nailed - myself and my tastebuds could not be any more happy. The food is phenomenal - they’ve nailed the Tijuana style street tacos. For anyone saying this place is a copy of another place, it’s literally just what Tijuana style taco shops are - so get over it, and enjoy the absolutely AMAZING food. Could not recommend this place anymore highly if you are looking for the most AUTHENTIC Mexican Food in the area. Blows every other Mexican spot out of the water. Only thing I will say is it is definitely a bit expensive if you are hungry. Wish the prices were a bit lower so I could have this...
Read moreMexico Tacos was a surprising find. the restaurant is beautifully decorated and has a very clean, organized feel, almost identical to Los Tacos No. 1 in NYC. It’s definitely customer friendly and easy to navigate, with quick service and a well-managed line. Unfortunately, the food didn’t quite live up to the presentation. I ordered the steak tacos, and while the fresh-made tortilla was a nice touch, the steak itself was pre-cooked and served from a steel bin. It wasn’t freshly grilled to order and was barely warm, which took away from the overall experience. The flavor was just okay not bad, but nothing particularly special. That said, the toppings were fresh and nicely put together. If you’re looking for a quick bite in a clean setting, it’s worth trying just don’t expect anything too...
