Who in the world is giving this place 5-stars? Is it the drunken hipsters who don’t know any better? This was the worst cheesesteak I’ve ever had! I’ve had better cheesesteaks at Subway. I’ll admit that Midtown’s fries were nice and crispy but all they had to do was open a bag of it from the freezer. (Not to knock this place alone on using frozen fries as a large majority of restaurants, even the fancy ones, use frozen fries.)
The bread was bland at best. They probably only put two slices of provolone because I barely saw it, and the meat is just low quality and unseasoned. Their topping choices are weird too. No onions and peppers. Just sub style toppings like tomatoes and lettuce. On cheesesteaks? Philadelphians would shoot and stab you if they heard this, and they normally only shoot.
On a warm Friday night on Halloween weekend as the streets were bustling, the fact that this shop was empty should’ve been my first red flag. I stuck around to eat inside hoping at least one other person would come in. Nope. About 30 minutes there, and the only person who came was the delivery guy. Ok, at least some other sucker got food from Midtown while I was eating there.
Here’s the cherry on top though: instead of being glad that someone bought something for $18, as the delivery guy came in, I overheard the cashier blatantly informing him “I don’t know why he’s (me) eating inside here. I thought he’d take it to-go.” What difference does it make if I eat there or elsewhere? I had to go to Manhattan and had time to kill before the 126 bus came, you ungrateful dolt. The worker (probably owner) must’ve been horrified that he had to tell his other employee to take out trash for the night instead of letting it pile up before the health inspectors come in.
I’m sure if Midtown Philly Steaks was actually in Midtown Manhattan or anywhere else in NYC, this place would have either a “grade pending” or “B” health inspection rating because the kitchen area seemed a little suspect. At least their bathroom and dining area were clean.
Now place your bets! What’s the over/under on this place closing? I say by the summer of 2024. No way in hell this place is turning a profit. The rent alone along Washington in Hoboken has to be sky high. Oh, no wonder they charge $18 for school...
Read moreI walked into Midtown Philly on a cold winter's night whilst craving some late night munchies. It was 10 minutes before closing time. Some meanie from earlier that night had ordered 4 cheesesteaks and never picked them up. My man Jinesh offered to give them to me all 4 for only the price of 2 cheesteaks. It blew my flippin' mind. I ate 2 of them that very night, gave one to my good friend Soup as a favor for accompanying me on my quest, and had one for a delicious breakfast in the morning. Easily one of the best nights of my life. Another time I was on a date with a fine lady, and took her to none else but Midtown. As we were making small chatter, talking about our hopes and dreams, one of the other workers (I forgot his name) gave us a complementary order of Cajun fries. We're not dating anymore, but god damn those Cajun fries were tasty. It's the generosity of people like Jinesh and the other employees of Midtown that make the world go round. Their cheesesteak sandwiches, AKA ambrosial meat and cheese generously stuffed between the supple loaves of fresh bread, absent of lettuce (as a cheesteak should be), are a must have for any Hoboken native. Midtown is not only LGBT+ friendly, but Wizard friendly! Even to wizards who are quite powerful and have a fixation...
Read moreThe food here is really good, and some things are very unique. The combinations here also don't sound like they would work (For example, the pizza cheese steak) but they taste very good, so feel free go go a little outside your comfort zone, I did, and I haven't been disappointed. Prices are quite good as well, I'm always filled up for around $10. In Hoboken, this is around average, maybe a bit cheaper. One warning though: if something sounds spicy, it is, and it is probably twice as spicy as it sounds. Don't worry though, it always tastes good. Delivery can be take a bit of time, but they don't advertise 30 minute delivery to my knowledge, so I don't hold it against them. The food arrives hot, so no complaints there. It generally arrives in around 45 minutes for me. The delivery drivers have been rude at times, but I'm not paying for a smile, I'm paying for food, so I don't mind much. The quality is hit or miss though, sometimes (Very infrequently) I find that the food is really greasy, but other times (Most of the time) it's perfectly fine. If they could get that worked out, I would definitely give...
