Court Street Restaurant, Hoboken – A Time Capsule with a Damn Good Prime Rib Walking into Court Street feels like stepping into a place that time forgot—one of those rare joints that has managed to dodge the soulless clutches of modernity, Instagram gimmicks, and QR code menus. It’s got the bones of an old-school New Jersey haunt: dim lighting, dark wood, a bar that’s seen a few things, and a crowd that actually eats instead of just photographing their plates. Then there’s the Monday night prime rib special—a miracle of inflation-defying generosity. Thirty bucks gets you a big-ass slab of prime rib, three sides, and a French onion soup that’s unapologetically rich, bubbling over with melted Gruyère, and bracingly salty in the way only a proper French onion soup should be. It’s a meal that makes you wonder if you’ve somehow stepped into a wormhole leading directly back to 1997. The prime rib itself? A beauty. Thick, juicy, still blushing in the middle, with just the right amount of fat to remind you why you came. The jus is deep, dark, and almost medicinal in its beefy essence—none of that watered-down nonsense. The sides—some combination of mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, maybe some steamed veggies—do their job, but let’s be honest: you’re here for the meat. The bar, of course, is where you want to be. Regulars perched on stools, sipping whiskey, chatting with the bartender like they actually know each other. No pretense, no nonsense—just good food, stiff drinks, and the kind of place where you could easily lose a few hours and not regret a single second. In a city where every new restaurant feels like it’s trying to sell you on some overpriced, deconstructed nonsense, Court Street remains what it’s always been: a proper neighborhood joint that knows exactly what it is and makes no apologies for it. If you find yourself in Hoboken on a Monday night and you skip this? Well, that’s your mistake.

I’m a return Court Street customer, especially love their beautiful salmon plate. I was really excited to order the Sushi Tuna special for pick-up. This was the presentation. When we called back and asked if it came with sides, they responded, “…If you had asked for it?” I’m posting as I’m hopeful to hear from the restaurant- Is this something you would serve alone on a plate at your establishment? I ended up having to cook up some frozen veggies alongside this tuna, which made for a disappointing $32 dinner.

I think Court Street is one of the best restaurants in Hoboken. I go there all the time. But during this pandemic I haven't gone as often as I would like. I still order take out though. On Monday night they have a Prime Rib Special! The Prime Rib is large and delicious. You never go away hungry. And, you get salad, a vegetable, along with some bread and a special spread. The staff is great and always accommodating. I ordered it last Monday and I had forgotten how great it was. Enjoy your next meal there!

Wow I'm still in shock what a horrible/awful experience we just had. Made a reservation for 7:15 pm on a Thursday night for me and my family from out of town. We arrived ten minutes early and they seated us right away. We ordered our drinks and looked over the menu, within ten minutes we ordered our food, appetizers (soup and clams casino) and mains (pasta with oil, a rubin sandwich, and the duck. It took over 45 minutes for our soup and the clams casino came out. I had to ask why such a long wait for something you heat up. Ten minutes later our appetizers finally came out. They informed us a large party was the reason why it was taking so long, we gave them grace. Over an hour and a half of wait for our main food we noticed the table next to us who sat down about 30 minutes after we originally arrived received their food. At this point there are only about five parties in the restaurant. We again asked our waitress what the hold up was. She said it would be out in a minute. Ten minutes still waiting, we informed our waitress we are no longer interested in our food and asked to finalize our bill. We left the restaurant around 8:50 with only receiving drinks, soup and a small appetizer. On our way out we asked the hostess where they hosted the large event and she informed us just in the dining room we were seated in. There was clearly no large group and our waitress was just making excuses for the poor service. In my opinion I believe our waitress just never put in our food order until after the 45 minutes passed and I asked what the hold up was for the appetizers. She should have been straight up and said she forgot. I believe the waitress name was Maria we asked the hostess but of course she...

Made a reservation for a party of 5 for 7pm on a Saturday. Was told that if we showed up a few minutes early, we may get seated. We showed up about 5-10 minutes early. We’re told they’ll seat us at 7.

Hostess and wait staff made zero discernible effort to move the customers at the only table thst can seat more than 4 people (why they couldn’t push two tables together is beyond me but whatever).

At 7:05, I was told the table we were waiting on had paid the bill and they were waiting for them to leave. 7:15, “a few more minutes.” 7:20, I see them getting their bill so at 7:05 we were lied to. Hostess gave no explanation, just acted like this was news to her.

7:30, still just wait and see is all she’s saying. 7:35, the wait staff is taking pictures for the people at the table we were waiting on.

7:45, we finally sat down. Food wasn’t served until 8:35. Zero apology from the restaurant, not even the offer of a free drink or an appetizer or even recognition of it from the waitress.

The food was fine, although my own order was not done as requested (asked for medium well and got toasty and well done on the burger).

I’ve gone to this restaurant before and have enjoyed it but I’ve never had to wait 45 minutes for a reserved table in my life, and there was zero effort from wait staff or hostess to say to the patrons “hey, sorry, but we have a reservation coming in and we need the table.” Instead they were taking pictures for them????

Off the rotation for a...
