To be honest, I have no idea what this restaurant is trying to be.
The last time I visited Anna's House, I had gone alone on a lunch break. I was in the mood to try something new, and I just so happened to come across this quaint little building during my search. I have to say, the pastel green and blue that they've chosen are very pleasing to the eye. However, I have no clue what the theme of this establishment is even attempting to convey.
If I had to take a wild shot in the dark (with a blindfold on), I would say it's a modern, 1920's, roller-blade food service without the skates. The interior feels like an indoor picnic mixed with an old fashioned dinner. There are bar seats, booths, and open tables of many different shapes and colors. Even after writing that, I still don't know if that's the most accurate way to describe the esthetic that Anna's House is trying to build. But, It's the best I could think of for now.
The menu is quite long, which begs me to believe that they take pride in providing a multitude of different options for all their customer's needs. But, when I had ordered a simple salad, I was less than impressed with how subpar it had been. I was hoping that for how expensive it was, It would at least make my top ten list. But, I would even go as far as saying that an Arby's salad still outranked what Anna's House had served me.
A lot of their food happens to share the same fate. They sound good on paper and even look good on the table, but as soon as it's eaten you only feel a sense of dissatisfaction. The prices in comparison to the quality of food are outrageously high.
As far as the staff goes, they seem outwardly friendly, but aren't very efficient. I was a single customer waiting at a booth for a salad, but it still took longer than expected for them to deliver. Typically, this restaurant is very busy which might explain the delay in service. I do, however, value my time, and hope that they improve in their ability to be quick and accurate with their food service.
If I had to recommend this place to anyone, it's a lovely spot for mothers. I would think that any mother would find this place absolutely charming and endearing if they had been invited here, but I wouldn't show them the check once it's brought out. Definitely more of a breakfast/brunch time date with "mumzie," as a opposed to a proper dinner. Overall, Anna's House just so happens to not be my forte, but I wouldn't say that that completely eliminates it from my eating options. This is a very subjective establishment, and I urge you to try it out at least once, and form your...
Read moreUpdate: Nico served us today so I had to update my review. Nico is one of the Best servers at Anna’s House in Holland and I would wait for a table in his section over the server we had in the below review. Nico, Deanna, Patty and Chad are the only servers that I would happily wait until they have an opening in their section. They are worth it!
Normally our waitresses/waiters are wonderful, today our waitress was a pain and made it so I couldn't order my usual as I am not a kid and I only wanted a kids meal. I have had bariatric surgery and really can't/shouldn't eat as much as they put in a "grown up" meal. My family goes here every sunday and I have never had an issue with this and was even told by our normal waitstaff to order it this way. I will wait next time for one of our normal waitresses and not "give the newer waitresses a chance" as this one today really ticked me off. All just so the restaurant can make more money on food that I can't eat.... If the waitress was thinking a bigger bill = bigger tip, she is sadly mistaken, as due to this I would have left her only a 3rd of what is normally left... but lucky for her my dad tipped but only 2/3rds of the normal. Just give/sell people what they fricken ordered and you would have made a better tip and how hard is it really to put in a kid's meal over a "jr meal" that included sides I didn't want which was why i wanted the KIDS meal... and then wanted to charge me more to add on toast (if I had wanted it). It was more the lying and misleading about the Jr Meal that was the issue. I have previously paid full price and ended up throwing away half or more than half of the meal, but it was PER THEIR OWN EMPLOYEES (MULTIPLE ONES) that they said I should order the kids meal and have been doing so over the last 2 months.
Long story short: I was charged $14.25 for 2 eggs with...
Read moreThis was my first and last time going to Anna’s. I’m honestly appalled at the service I received from Nico. I came in alone and was seated at the bar. While pleasant enough, it felt like any request I made was treated like an inconvenience and responded to with very short replies. As a server in the past, I go out of my way to be kind and aware when servers are busy or overwhelmed, so I did my best to respond as warmly as I could, assuming Nico was simply busy. At the end of the meal I received the check and paid, forgetting I had a gift card. I almost didn’t bother asking, but I’m in town from Chicago and would probably never get another chance to use it. When I asked, Nico talked to the manager, came back and dropped a peice if paper and pen in front of me and said they’d be back. I had no idea what it was for but assumed I’d be told. Minutes later, Nico approached and said “did you write the number down?”. And I said “I didn’t know that’s what you needed”. To which I received no response and Nico walked away. Once I’d written the gift card number down, Nico took the paper, The gift card was run, and came back again, handed me the new check and waited in silence. I said thank you and Nico said, “can I get your card”. Flustered and taken aback by how short Nico was, I handed over my card, signed and paid, and couldn’t leave...
