NEVER coming back to this Colombian restaurant, what a real disappointment and expensive!, I wanted my dominican husband to try our Colombian food but unfortunately he was not well attended by the waitress, starting from there. The lulo juice was more like a light lemonade type, very watery, lot foam, tasteless. We ordered more salsa rosada for or ok empanadas, we ask for some mayonnaise and the waitress said they run out of it, she brought us 3 little cups that had only a pinch of salsa rosada, we said they look pretty empty and she said they were full, they are so cheap with the salsa. The waitress took 2 orders only from our table and then when my husband was going to order his, she said sorry and walked away to run to attend other clients without finishing our orders and then she came back later to finish what he was asking for, that's not only very disorganized but disrespectful. Looks like this place was understaffed but it wasn't that busy to not finish our orders. We ordered at first 2 Bandejas paisas but then I told the same waitress right there at the moment to bring me some Ajiaco instead and a side of Avocado (that I never got, only until we were done with our food and still was put in our bill), we got the 2 Bandejas paisas instead, I never got my Ajiaco, I leave it like that because we were hungry, if she can't remember what a table orders I HIGHLY recommend her to use a notebook/pad to take notes, that's fine nobody it's going to judge her for that and that helps her to keep her organized. The 3rd plate was not as good, the food more burnt than anything. Then another waiter brought us the avocado and said sorry for that but we said we not longer wanted it because we were done eating, what's the point. Forced to pay a tip of 18% that it's already included when the service was terrible starting by the waitress giving poor excuses that sorry she was busy outside...
Read moreLast night, after enjoying dinner at Miso, I asked our waitress for a recommendation on where we could go for some good Latin music and lively local vibes. Without hesitation, she recommended Tardes Caleñas, highlighting its great music and welcoming, family like atmosphere. Trusting her word, my partner and I drove 20 minutes to downtown Hollywood to check it out.
Unfortunately, what we experienced could not have been further from what we were promised.
Upon arrival, we were seated in a back corner, far from the music and energy. I kindly asked the waitress if we could be moved closer to the dance floor, and she responded dismissively, telling me to check for myself because it was “busy” on that side. So we got up, walked over, and found an available table closer to the action.
We ordered drinks, genuinely looking forward to the music and enjoying the night. But almost immediately, the energy toward us shifted. The menus were taken away without a word, and before we even had two sips of our half-poured drinks, the waitress dropped the check on our table without asking if we wanted food or additional drinks.
The message was loud and clear: we were not welcome. I’m Puerto Rican, and my partner is an Indian doctor. We are both professionals and carried ourselves with respect and class. Yet the treatment we received made it very clear that we were not wanted there. It was hard not to feel discriminated against, and that’s a feeling no one should ever have especially in a place meant to be about music, joy, and community.
This experience was disappointing, disheartening, and frankly offensive. I would not recommend Tardes Caleñas to anyone who values respectful service and a welcoming atmosphere. Your money and your dignity...
