Holy Grail Donuts in Kakaako is an absolute gem! From the moment you step in, the delightful aroma of freshly made donuts draw you in. Their unique taro-based donuts are a revelation—crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, with a perfect balance of flavors.
I tried The Tourist, a pina colada taro donut made with @kohanarum coconut cream, coconut flakes and @unclemikeys dried 🍍. You can tell they use high-quality ingredients and a lot of thought & love in their recipes.
The shop itself has a trendy, cozy vibe, making it a great spot to hang out and enjoy your treats. Plus they have Wi-Fi!
I love that they have their Classics that are always available: The Original Sin - hawaii vanilla bean, maple & sea salt. The Hail Mary - cardamom & rose. The Island Chocolate - single estate chocolate, from lydgate farms, Kauai. And then Hot Single - local honey and sea salt. In addition they have a weekly sampling they call The Tasting Box this weeks offerings: Notorious P.O.G. - local passionfuit, orange & guava. The Toursist - which I mentioned above. The Saffron Snickerdoodle - saffron, cinnamon vanilla sugar. And then the J Dilla - single origin chocolate & coconut butter.
Holy Grail also has a series right now they call Breaking Bread. Their goal is to bring people together to create masterful donuts and conversation. 20% of proceeds from these flavors go towards a meaningful charity. Right now they have the GRL SWIRL- Passion fruit, strawberry & dragonfruit. benefiting "Swirl Skate Foundation," which unifies people through skating. Through various programs, like youth mentorship programs, and free community events they believe that skate can break gender boundaries, inspire self-esteem, create friendships, and ultimately form everlasting bonds with community and peers. So cool!
Holy Grail Donuts is a must-visit for anyone in Honolulu. Whether you're a local or a visitor, you won't be disappointed....
Read moreThe only way to describe this place is meh.... The only reason I didn't offer tree stars is because the doughnuts are totally over priced. I mean 4 bucks for a doughnut? Yes I realize they are made with kalo. But where is the kalo from? I didn't see anything about local chocolate. So let's move past that.... Bottom line, warm doughnuts are amazing but not when they are 4 bucks each. The ridiculous thing about this biz, is they offer a sampler for 12 bucks. You think that when you automatically spend 12 bucks on some fried dough they would make sure that you are taken care of. Nope.... The doughnuts in the sampler are about 7o% the size of the same doughnut on the the regular menu. So don't order the sample pack unless you like cute boxes and small doughnuts. Oh! And the location at ward center, don't select curb side pick up if you are really hungry or almost outta gas. I'll leave it at that except for two words Crispy creme!
I read through a few other reviews and seemed to come across the phrase "vegan doughnuts". Well unless you are at voodoo doughnuts and order the one with NyQuil, fruity pebbles and bacon. Aren't all doughnuts vegan? Don't ask McDonalds that, they like the beef fat... So it's vegan, I don't recall any meat additive when I was little and went to Winchell's.. Does crispy creme add a dash of lard to the original glazed? If I was a vegan, I feel like I'd been taken...
Read moreWow!! When I tell you these are the BEST donuts on Oahu, and quite possibly the best donuts I've ever had, I was not prepared for that. I stumbled upon this café unintentionally as I was on my way to visit a friend at work. I parked at Whole Foods and as I was walking I noticed the sign “Holy Grail Donuts”. I decided to see what it was about, unsure if I’d even buy anything, and when I entered I was kindly greeted. I took a moment to look over the menu and saw they offer a ube latte, so i automatically was like yup I'm getting that bad boy. I ordered the 4-pack donuts and asked the person helping me to give me whatever she thought was good and she said “I gotchu”. I knew I was in good hands after that. I received my ube latte super fast and yummm it was so good! Subtle espresso flavor that paired very well with the ube. My donuts took about five minutes and were nice and warm inside a cute sustainable box. When I got home I MOPPED these donuts. They are slightly crisp yet soft and pack so much delicious flavor that is not overpoweringly sweet. They ARE $4.50, but you can’t be CHEAP when it comes to supporting local businesses that put a lot of love and care into their product. The merchandise is also super cute and although I stopped myself from buying a shirt even though I really wanted to, I got a real cute sticker that made it riiiight to the hydroflask. I will be back soon & would...
