Any random seafood restaurant in Hawaii can serve the same quality food but where else can you find such hell-like customer service? A dumb waitress ruined our dinner by forgetting our orders not only once, not twice, but THREE times in 1.5 hours. We first ordered our drink and waited for 20 minutes till the manager happened to come by and brought our drinks. It’s not even the fun part. After we waited another 30 minutes, the waitress dared to come and deliver the bill WITHOUT SERVING ANY MAIN DISHES. We had three people with three entrees on the bill, but none of those plates were on the table??? At that point we were still trying to be nice, and simply reminded the girl about our orders again. Then our first entree came. That’s it. That’s the only main dish we got for the entire dinner. When two starving customers wanted to check with that waitress 30 minutes later, she came WITH THE BILL again. We were already tired of reminding her, but here she asked: “what food?” As if one half-pound salmon poke can feed three adults?? As if after the first mistake she still doesn’t feel the need to check our orders again? As if she didn’t even look at our bill for one sec before rushing to us for her tips? We were in fact not surprised when she just walked away realizing there were still two missing dishes. ‘Cause she didn’t apologize for the first and second time, either. Neither her, nor the manager, came to our table to make any apologies. We then went to complain about the waitress, and the manager just passively waived the payment and told us “you can go now” like we were the ones making nonsense in her restaurant. Forgetting is one thing. The attitude those people carried is truly disgusting. Find another restaurant if you can. There are like ten seafood spots in the same block. Trust me, It’s not worth the time, energy, or your decent soul to deal with...
Read moreLooks like a hole in the wall from the outside. Inside was dark, but AC was on so it's comfortable. Place was full at noon on a Sunday. Server was exceptionally friendly and I can see a lot of regulars coming for lunch. They knew their regulars well and served them what they normally want without them asking.
Ordered Oyster Jun and the 1/2 lb Mama Special Poké. When you order the poke by the lb there's no rice, which is what we wanted.
Free sides were offered. $3 if you'd like to replenish the sides. Kimchi was good and not spicy which was good for my friend. Daikon was spicy which was tasty for me. Macaroni was okay. Creamy and I'm just not a fan of cold macaroni, but some might like the macaroni salad.
Oyster Jun was basically oysters wrapped in fried egg batter. It was very tasty and fried to a crisp. Delicious and would come for this again.
Mama's special poke is basically ahi tuna, fish roe and onions. We were surprised it had no sauce so it didn't have much flavour if you eat it on it's own. There were mild and spicy options, maybe it would've been different if we ordered spicy? Or maybe they forgot to put on the sauce altogether because the server asked me to pay before my poke came. Then when I asked if I can have the poke before paying she was very apologetic that they forgot and gave us maybe 1lb of poke instead of the 1/2lb. They do have sauces you can add on your own. Maybe that's how its meant to be, you add your own sauces. It was tasty after adding the soy sauce and sesame sauce after.
Overall service was excellent. The Korean server was very enthusiastic and made recommendations when we asked. Food was okay, but maybe I didn't understand what I'm supposed to do with the poke. Tuna was fresh and worth the price. Plenty of fish roe and I like the...
Read moreMy friends and I were looking for a late night pocha and hyped ourselves up for the famous Kyung’s. We got here around 8pm on a Tuesday and waited 10 minutes for a party of five.
Unfortunately, we came during a sashimi shortage so we didn’t try any of their seafood—that’s what we were the most hyped about. The poke photos looked dressed and delicious!
Soju Cocktails - We got the yogurt and strawberry ones. It’s nice that they use real strawberries in the drinks, although they were frozen so we ended up having huge chunks of icey strawberries in our cups. We unsealed the lid so we could pour it because it was too chunky. We liked the yogurt one better. I actually ordered a strawberry cocktail and a yogurt soju bottle on its own but they misheard our order; after seeing the person go through the hassle of mixing the drinks, we decided not to send it back.
Gizzard - This was saucy and I thought it’d come less “wet” with jalapeños and garlic, but this was their take on it. It tasted like seafood boil/Old Bay seasoning. It was good although I kept on being distracted by the cajun flavors.
Fish cake soup - Despite the hot weather outside, this warmed our bellies. It was delicious. The broth was simple and clean. You can’t go wrong with it.
Seafood and kimchi pancake - This is the best Korean pancake I’ve ever tried at a restaurant. It didn’t feel too greasy. It was perfectly crispy and thick. It was flavorful on its own and didn’t have any moist, oily breakage.
Overall, it was a nice late night experience and we got to come back to try their...
