With all the hullabaloo about boba drinks around town, it's really hard to pick which is my favorite.
I lied.
Milky Way Hawaii Ice is my favorite.
I think I not only like it because every drink I've had there is so delish. But, because it's just simple. You order from their pictures and what you see is what you get.
Honestly, no offense to any of the other boba shops in town where you pick your tea, your sweetness level, what add-ins you want. etc., etc... Milky Way Hawaii Ice literally shows you (in photos) exactly what you will be getting and, best of all, it's cheap! I find that when I go to other shops (which are good, don't get me wrong), when you add in more and more stuff, the price can really skyrocket and next thing you know, you are drinking a $7+ drink out of a tiny cup filled with ice and all the fix-ins. At Milky Way Hawaii Ice, I don't think I've spent over $5.50 for a medium sized drink. Affordable, right?!
If you didn't know, Milky Way Hawaii Ice is a food truck...well, drink truck, I guess haha. It's parked at Mother Waldron Park along Pohukaina Street right where Cooke Street and Pohukaina meet. You can't miss it...it's a bright, colorful truck. I believe they are open daily (except Sundays) until 5:30pm. Parking is super easy on the street near the truck or just be a passenger and jump out while your friends/family circle around or double-park.
I LOVE their snowthies (mango and strawberry are yummm...don't forget to shake it up AFTER you take your token photos) and I also love their Amber Boba Milk Tea. Don't ask me if I've tried anything else because I haven't...you know how you love something, you stick with it because you risk not loving the new thing you try? Totally me.
See you at the truck!...
Read moreThis is a hidden gem in an area that's going through gentrification. I visited the Milky Way Hawaii Ice food truck on a recommendation from a local. Both the Azuki Bean snow and the Baba Golden Milk drinks are hands down the best I've ever had. Why can't I get this type of quality and price in my home town of Vancouver? Highly recommended for anyone who can venture out to the food...
Read moreBest shave ice on Oahu, no debate! Any shave ice / smoothie place that uses REAL taro, deserves a our patronage.
(I never could understand why so many places in Hi use artificial taro powder, when we grow so much taro!!)
But taro may not be the biggest reason to come here. Mango snowthie, brown sugar milk tea shave ice with bobas, and of course the beautiful pineapple shave ice...
