I have been powerlifting for many years and when moving to Hawai’i I was nervous how the powerlifting community will be out here! However, when discovering Ukiyo Hawai’i I knew this was the place to be for my husband and I who take our powerlifting training very seriously. Ukiyo be a long shot stands out as the best powerlifting gym in Hawaii. It offers the best top-quality equipment tailored for serious training that I have ever experienced in a powerlifting gym. They also host the most hype local powerlifting meets I’ve ever experienced/ been apart of. However, what really makes Ukiyo Hawai’i so special is the community here that are very tight-knit and incredibly welcoming, making you feel at home from day one. So if you're a powerlifter or someone who loves strength training living in or visiting Oahu, Ukiyo Hawai’i is 100% the place to be! Also thank you Ukiyo fam for helping me find my love for competing again!

This gym is just outstanding! As a big passionate of bodybuilding, I have visited a lot of gyms around the world and this one definitely ranks as S tier! The space is divided between a machine zone (bodybuilding style) and a PL zone. Everything is perfectly maintained and accurately chosen, from the dubells to the millions of grips from Prime and Mag. I loved every minute of the training session! Must go if u r in Honolulu!

A powerlifters paradise! Don’t be fooled though, with a wide array and variety of equipment, you’ll be able to cater to your fitness goals. Whether it be powerlifting, weightlifting, or getting a quick jog in. This gym has it all! They have daily and weekly passes for those of us who are only visiting this beautiful island. Staff is attentive and friendly, and helped answer any questions I had!

Super awesome locally owned gym with the perfect combination of extended hours, gear for aficionados, and convenient location.

Pros: Jaron the owner is amazing, welcoming, and personable. He's a friendly guy who takes time out of his day to check with each member and regularly upgrades the space-- truly passionate about weightlifting and lifting others up.

The gym is spacious, organized into bodybuilding and powerlifting zones. It's aesthetically beautiful and the equipment is not just standard issue, it is GOOD. It's very easy to love lifting here. It's not a super-franchise, and is built by someone who is passionate about bringing the best to Oahu. I had enough space to do my physical therapy program, which kind of requires that I sprawl out a bit, comfortably even during peak hours. Super easy to communicate swapping in on stations with the other members when it's busy, too.

It's inspiring because 1) virtually everyone there is a regular and 2) everyone genuinely enjoys getting a lift in!! It's beginner friendly and is easy to go from newbie to gym nerd really fast with the encouraging environment and the way it's set up to handle progressive goals. Fwiw nearly all the members are in my same age bracket (20s-30s).

Cons: If you're into changing onsite late at night, there is a secured bathroom in the external part of the building, but it is not attached to the gym itself. I never had a safety issue with using the bathroom, and the gym's main entry is secured, but as someone who is femme-presenting I wish I had a buddy to go with during the late...

If you're a powerlifter living/visiting O'ahu, chances are you've already heard of Ukiyo. In case you haven't...YOU SHOULD TRAIN HERE. The gym is a large, well-ventilated indoor space boasting 6+ combo racks, dedicated deadlift platforms, mostly (pretty much exclusively) Eleiko equipment :O. Dumbbells, machines & accessories equipment available as well. Ukiyo's powerlifting community is wonderful. Its members represent a wide variety of experience & strength, but everyone I met (I visited to compete & train here for ~2wks) is friendly & helpful. Jaron is a consummate owner: courteous, professional, easy to connect with, meticulous, responsive, helpful. If you compete, definitely definitely definitely sign up for an Ukiyo meet. Out of my 7 meets, this has been the most organized & on-time; athletes' warmup area was spacious, which is a huge treat. The gym's interior decor & member/crowd energy is truly a vibe. In addition to regular membership, they also offer daily, weekly or monthly passes. Plan your training session(s) @ Ukiyo into your next...
