I have been to many restaurants on vacation for breakfast across the globe and on many occasions, I've had some great experiences with great food. With that being said, I must say that Sweet E's Cafe is one of my all time favorite restaurants for breakfast. Sweet E's opened over a decade ago and is a family run business and when you're here, they treat you like family.
While vacationing in Honolulu, we on the recommendation of my wife who's been here before decided to check out Sweet E's and the food, service and hospitality kept us coming back for more. When you see Sweet E's from the outside, you don't think much of the restaurant but when you come in then you see that they are all about family. On the many occasions that we were here from the first time to the last, we were treated like family.
The food is amazing and consistent. The food portions are perfect for the price and to find food this delicious and at such a reasonable prices is almost unheard of in Waikiki. I went with the All American breakfast with eggs whites for my omelet and every time I ordered it, it was consistently delicious, well cooked, seasoned perfectly and balanced out with hash browns and toast. My wife and daughter went with the Everyday breakfast and always enjoyed their meals as well.
The atmosphere here is very casual, inviting and familial. There were times when the talking level was loud then there were times that the noise level was normal but it spoke to the way that people enjoyed their time and their food. The customer service is amazing, professional and again, familial. I really can't say enough about Sweet E's other than to say that they should be your first stop for breakfast...
Read moreWe had a very disappointing experience during our lunch visit today (May 30).
When we arrived at the restaurant, the two of us were the first party on the waiting list. There was an empty table clearly visible near the entrance, and when we asked if we could sit there, he (Nao, manager with a yellow mohawk) said there was still a wait and told us to wait outside. Since we were first on the list, we were the only ones waiting outside
After that, a couple who parked after us entered the restaurant. When they didn’t come back out for a while, we went inside to check and saw that they were already seated — at the very table we had asked to sit at earlier. We told Nao that it was unfair for people who came after us to be seated first. He lied, saying that they had already been on the waitlist and that he had called them in—which was clearly not true.
The table we were eventually assigned was uncomfortable, and when we asked for a different one, he rudely responded, “You didn’t say you wanted a specific table.”
After we finished our meal, we asked for his name and told him we would be leaving a review about his dishonest behavior. He simply walked away without saying anything. Then, as we were leaving the restaurant, he shouted in front of others in the parking lot, “You and you (pointing to my partner)—never come back here again!” It was shocking and extremely unprofessional.
To make matters worse, the food was nothing special, very disappointing, and fell below expectations. Overall, both the service and the food were very disappointing, and we have no intention of...
