We were vacationing in Oahu, and one person in our group just had to get some Korean food, so we stopped by here. We got 4 different dishes at this place: naengmyun (cold noodles), fried rice in black bowl, kalbi, and tteokbokki (rice cakes in hot sauce). The cold noodles were decent. No real complaints there. The fried rice were semi disappointing because it wasn't very hot (temperature). I understand that it wasn't a stone bowl fried rice, but I still expected the rice and other ingredients to be hotter than room temp. The kalbi was the most disappointing. The meat was tough and the flavors were just so-so. We've had much better kalbi at L&L. This is not a knock on L&L, but L&L is a fast food take out place, and you'd expect a much higher quality at a sit down Korean place where it costs twice as much. Finally the rice cakes were also disappointing. Not only did they not allow adding ramen noodles despite the menu indicating that we could (they said the menus were old), there were only like 10 pieces of rice cakes, and the flavor was mediocre.
Not a terrible experience, but it was not great either. I think 3 stars is a very fair assessment. Would I stop by again in my future visit? Probably not, unless it was really hot and I wanted a nice bowl of cold...
Read moreMy girlfriend had come here a few months back and had a great meal. She can't eat meat and had requested a noodle dish with the meat held. Previously the waitress had been extremely nice and asked her if she wanted something substituted. This time we got a dark scowl followed by an elderly waitress coming up and sternly telling us that wasn't possible. A moment later, our waitress and the older woman were having big argument right in front of us about it. It was one of the most awkward dining experiences I've had, and I felt very unwelcome. We will not be coming back for some time.
Also, inquire about which dishes are hot and cold. I assumed only the ones marked "iced" we're cold, but that was not the case. I'm not a fan of cold noodle dishes, and...
Read moreWe ordered cold noodles, boiled dumplings, and bibimbap. The food was overall good — especially the cold noodles and bibimbap. My friend liked the dumplings, but they weren’t to my taste.
The water was surprisingly okay compared to other places in Hawaii. The atmosphere was a bit awkward with no music and only six people in the restaurant.
The staff understood Japanese, which helped my friend a lot. But toward the end, even though it wasn’t closing time, they suddenly handed us the check — and it already had a preset tip, with no explanation. That was disappointing and felt rude, especially since the place wasn’t busy.
We were ready to tip properly, but this left a bad impression. What could have been a favorite spot ended on a sour note. I won’t...
