The food is always awesome but their service has much to be desired. Today I stopped by to pick up lunch and it was so dark, no lights on, and the workers seemed like zombies. I thought I walked into a mortuary and kept expecting to see a dead body in a coffin behind the counter. Wake up people, get excited about the food you serve, get your customers excited about what to try, make people feel welcome. After what I saw today, I don't think I'll be going back. There's enough bad news in the world to then feel even sadder getting lunch. It's been about 9 months since my last visit and it's gotten worse. I could live with the unfriendly staff but this time the food was room temp which made it all very unappetizing. To top it off I was craving char siu pork and it was cold and dry. All the food in the trays had a dull cold glaze on top of it, I should have followed my gut feeling and walked out. Like before, you walk in and no one says hello or aloha, they stare at you and give off this vibe like oh great, another customer we have to help ugh. They have a bunch of kids working on weekends and they obviously don't want to be there. The whole staff are like zombies shuffling along behind the counter looking at you and wondering why you're there. It's a sad staff that now includes sad food. This will be my last visit to this place, if you want to see some zombies for Halloween stop...
Read moreCome hungry! Chun Wah Kam had been known for their manapuas for a long time but at this location, they're also known for their plate lunches. Mini plates allow for two starches and two entree choices while regular plates, for a couple dollars more, offer two starches and three entree choices. There are usually around 30 selections to choose from and the food is piled high into the container until the lid barely closes. That said, a plate usually lasts me two to three meals depending on how hungry I am.
They have a great variety of fried rices and fried noodles to choose from for starches as well as the standard assortment of protein from fish to chicken to pork and beef. I love their ginger chicken fried rice and though it's a bit on the oily side, it's definitely a must try! Many traditional plate Chinese plate lunch fare are also served such as beef broccoli, sweet-sour spare ribs, orange chicken, and egg fu yung.
Aside from the assorted (and some unusual) manapuas and plate lunches, you can also find some basic dim sum choices and desserts like half moons, tea cookies and rice cakes.
Like I said, come hungry but then you'll likely leave with more than...

I personally only come here because my dad is in love with their half moons and pork hash. But it is a good gift to get for family or friends when visiting their homes.
It's been my experience that if you want the Half Moons or Pork Hash you need to go early. MOST of the "good stuff" is taken before 9:00A which is crazy in my opinion.
One of the local favorites is of course the Mana Pua. My favorite is the char siu.
During the day they also have a hot plate area where you can make a plate lunch. The portions are HUGE so just keep that in mind. I've always been happy with their beef and broccoli and green bean and chicken.
This location has a parking area that you access by coming down Pensicola. It is limited but there are a decent amount of stalls.
They have a few other locations on Oahu that you can order from but like this one most of the "good stuff" is taken early.
SO if you need a quick dish to take to your friends or family house, I...
