AnnKello Kahawa — Restaurant in Houston

Saw a post on TikTok about this new coffee shop in my neighborhood, so I decided to check it out. The video showed how cute the esthetics were, giving a beautiful, luxury vibe. What really caught my attention was that they served matcha that everyone seemed to like.

So I went to check it out for myself. I love a good coffee bar with cozy vibes for working, studying or chilling. You can definitely do all 3 here, but keep in mind it’s a small, very intimate café. They have Hip Hop & R&B playing in the background. Booth seats along the wall and bar stools along the bar. There’s also chairs and tables outside on the lawn where you’ll get a nice view of the Galleria mall.

I ordered the Strawberry Matcha with oat milk. And I must say that this has been the best matcha I’ve ever had. So much so that I went twice for it. Other matcha I had prior kinda tasted dry and not sweet. Well this one was creamy and sweet. Especially with the strawberry jam at the bottom. I loved it!

I loved hearing how the barista explained to a new customer when she asked what was his favorite, the coffee or matcha? He told her that it was more about what one is in the mood for. He went on to say more, but I can agree with that. I was in the mood to relax & unwind. Something to take the edge off. And that strawberry matcha did just that. Nice and smooth.

I already can tell that I will be back to try more of their products. I’m very excited to have a coffee shop like this in the Galleria area. I know AnnKello Kahawa will see great...

Let me just say, I am not a matcha person. I’ve always hated that weird aftertaste most matchas have, so I never even look their way. Honestly, I’m one of those people who judge when someone says they like matcha or even order it. But for some reason, while reading the menu, I asked the barista for a recommendation, and she suggested the strawberry matcha. I immediately made a face, and she just smiled and said, “Trust me, you won’t regret it. I usually don’t like the after taste matcha too, but his matcha doesn’t have that aftertaste at all. It’s one of the best.”

So I thought, why not? Worst case, I confirm my lifelong dislike for matcha. But oh my god… she proved me so wrong. This drink was honestly incredible.. smooth, perfectly balanced, no weird aftertaste, just pure heaven. I can confidently say this is the only matcha I’ll ever drink, and I wouldn’t even mind swapping my morning coffee for this beauty.

I’m not exaggerating when I say I’m in love. This place deserves way more recognition, and I really hope they stay consistent because they’ve converted a die-hard matcha hater...

I can’t say enough good things about this Tanzanian coffee and matcha shop! Collin was absolutely wonderful! He was so sweet, welcoming, and genuinely passionate about his shop. He took the time to share a bit about the history of Tanzania and his love for it, which made the whole experience feel extra special. The staff was great!! Now, LET ME TELL YOU…I am not a matcha person at all—I usually hate it—BUT … their matcha completely changed my mind! We tried the signature AnnKello Kahawa Latte, Strawberry Matcha, and an iced chocolate cookie dough latte, plus a few pastries, and every single thing was a solid 10 out of freaking 10! The flavors were perfectly balanced, rich, and so unique. This place has officially ruined other coffee shops for me because nothing else compares.
