The George Theater, home to the A.D. Players, is a large, modern facility that showcases area talent and multiple plays/musicals each year. Located in the Houston Galleria area, the George Theater is convenient to most of the city and is on one of the main streets, making it easy to find.
I have been to a few different plays at the George Theater and I continue to come away from the experience impressed even more each time. The theater itself is medium in size with comfortable seating and both a lower level and balcony. Views are good no matter where you sit, since no seat is very far from the stage. The digital sound and stage set up are all excellent and the service is outstanding. All of the personnel make sure that you feel welcome and they go out of their way to help with any questions you might have or any assistance you may need.
If you get hungry or thirsty, the George Theater serves drinks and snacks. You are not permitted to bring them into the theater, so be sure to finish them before you make your way to your seat. Another restriction is picture taking. You can’t take pictures during the shows, however you are free to snap a pic or two before the actual show, during intermission, etc.
The George Theater is an impressive size from the outside. You really can’t miss the large, stand- alone building. Another plus is the parking- the George Theater has its own parking lot with more than enough spaces for all, and the parking is free! All things considered, the George Theater is a hidden gem in Houston and a place that earns an easy five...
Read moreSaw "Best of Enemies" tonight. Wow! What a powerful message. All four performers were a delight to watch.
Kevin Dean as C.P. Ellis delivered a nuanced performance. Watching the character deal with both the racial turbulence of the early 70's and the personal problems in his life felt completely believable.
Alice Gatling as Ann Atwater was a force to be reckoned with. Watching her own journey of self-discovery was enlightening and emotional.
Joseph Palmore and Christy Watkins portrayed their characters with depth and true attention to detail.
The directors use of costuming during the scene changes to set the location was inspired. Her use of real language was difficult to listen to at times. That said it was complete necessary. We ALL need reminders like that about how ugly those racial slurs are!
The scenic and costume designs were simple and perfect. Both set the mood and time without drawing attention to themselves.
My only complaint is that neither the sound designer nor audio engineer are credited in the program. The sound design was instrumental in establishing and pushing forward the story.
The venue is beautiful and the free parking great! Can't...
Read moreI have been coming to the A.D. players theater for a few years now. They have been extremely consistent with their shows. I like the Christian point of view for the establishment. Each play is phenomenal. The most recent play I went to was a sound of music. It was very heartwarming and made you feel like you were literally a part of the play. It was very captivating and the aesthetic of each scene was well thought out.
I do have one complaint which is the food line is always very long. It would be nice if they would have more than one person working the bar and refreshment/food area. Parking is always a breeze. No issues with parking.
Other than that there is really no bad seat in the entire place. I love how intimate the theater is and it is always very clean and inviting by the staff. I always attend their yearly gala/raising money event. Those are always very fun and entertaining. Highly recommend checking out there...
