Barnaby's is one of those little out of the way places you often hear about, but somehow never get around to visiting. Do visit! Sure the parking is limited. It is true that you will wait to be seated. If Barnaby's was mundane food, only average, you could probably walk right in. But be prepared, you will wait. The day we and one other couple went, it was cloudy, cold and raining. We sat in a partially enclosed porch, where someone had thoughtfully placed some ceiling heaters for warmth. Despite the heaters, we huddled together for warmth. There were four or five other couples waiting as well. There is a hugh menu posted by the door, but due to traffic, difficult to stand and read. It seemed like forever, then our names were finally called. We entered into Barnaby's. A giant soul who seemed gentle enough, led us to our well worn table. The atmosphere was as though someone had hastily flung the room together. However despite this, Barnaby's exudes a charm we seem to have unfortunately escaped in our modern world of eat, pay me, get out. There were a couple of men sitting at the table next to us, who having eaten were now casually sipping coffee and reading the newspaper. I first felt resentment. How dare them! There are people outside waiting, and it is cold. That's when I realized, I was in a unhurried world of the past. We ordered from the jovial giant soul who scurried away to start our food. In no time we had super clean glasses of sparking clean ice water, and mugs of streaming hot, strong coffee. You know! Like grounds in the water, cooked on the hot campfire coals kind of strong. My arms grew hair. Soon the breakfast arrived. Streaming hot Spanish cooked eggs like I have never eaten before. I wanted the recipe, not going to happen. The egg fairy is the only one with the secret, and she's not letting it out. The toast was perfect, and a wide assortment of jams supplemented the best breastfed I've eaten in eons. Barnaby's is not just a breakfast place, Barnaby's is an...
Read moreTucked away in the Houston "Gayborhood", this Barnaby's location is quaint, friendly, and offers delicious food. When we first entered, we weren't sure what to do since there is no host stand or podium. You walk to the center of the patio and look for a clipboard to add your name to the waitlist to and just relax untl called. In the waiting area, there was coffee and water for you to self-serve, nice touch. We were called in less than 10 minutes and got our table outside on the patio, with our puppy Chip. The server brought over a small container for water for Chip and took our order. I had the Migas with fresh jalapenos and it was delicious. It had a slight different flavor from what I'm used to for migas, but I ate nearly all of it, even the delicious potatoes that came on the side. I asked for a side of salsa which might have already come with it, but just in case, request some when you go. The salsa was kinda smoky and really flavorful. We also had the fresh fruit and ordered the breakfast plate with chicken sausage. Chicken sausage there was delicious. The only negative thing I noticed was the congestion around the bathroom area, but wasn't a major deal. The food & service were well worth it, we will...
