My mind is absolutely boggled by the good reviews on this establishment. I honestly don't even know how this restaurant is still in business. This is the worst "BBQ" I have ever had in my life! The restaurant itself is very dirty & smells terrible. You can see filth build up from the walls, to the floors, to the cups hanging & everywhere. I had chopped beef brisket & sausage with fried okra & bbq pinto beans. The bbq sauce itself does NOT taste like any bbq sauce I have ever had & it is extremely watery. It was absolutely disgusting. The chopped beef brisket was flavorless & marbleized. The sausage links tasted like spam. They smelled like feet & were like dried up rubber. The bbq pinto beans were awful due to them being smothered in the "bbq" sauce. The okra was OK & that's only because it is hard to screw up fried okra. I cannot believe how horribly bad this place was. I wish I could get a refund. I do not recommend this place...
Read moreWent inside at 11:30 Saturday morning, placed an order to go. Only one customer dining in the restaurant. He said his food was good. Before placing my order, I asked for some country gravy on the side, for my fries, they didnt have any made yet, didn't have any cobbler ready either. And they no longer sell cornbread. Don't understand how you can be open for an hour and still getting things ready. Ordered the beef ribs, full slab for $20 plus a side of fried okra. The ribs were small, greasy and lack flavor. Had to add the homemade bbq sauce, which was different. My dad ordered the loaded baked potato with chopped brisket for $15, it was huge and he said it was good. One if my biggest problem was the person who took the order, was struggling with basic questions regarding the menu. Was later told this establishment is under new ownership. This place has lots of fundamental issues for a bbq restaurant in Houston. I will not...
Read moreI recently tried Brown Sugar's BBQ in Houston because they advertised bigger BBQ potatoes than Pappas BBQ. Sadly, the meal was pretty disappointing. I got the fully loaded BBQ chicken baked potato, but the chicken was dry and the BBQ sauce tasted like bean gravy. It was so bad that I had to go to a nearby grocery store to buy BBQ sauce that actually tasted good. The restaurant itself looked old and worn out, with outdated equipment and furniture. This, along with the bad food, made for a pretty unpleasant experience.
The service was okay, but it didnât make up for the poor food and old atmosphere. Based on this visit, I wonât be going back to Brown Sugarâs BBQ. There are definitely better BBQ places out there. However I wish them the best and hope they make...
