Holy Moly. I have visited Eddie V'S for years. Both of the locations in Houston. They are ALWAYS top notch for ambiance from the moment you step in the door. Fortunately, Eddie V has maintained a dress code and a classy vibe. No flipflops, basketball shorts, or men in tank tops here. You will find nice jeans and boots, suits, casual office attire, upscale dresses, and dressy bar attire. The bar is lively and fun with live music of varied types but really nice with the jazz and blues. You can eat in the bar if you choose to. It makes the pre-dinner Manhattan a real experience and the bartenders know their cocktails. If you are into bourbon, I can personally recommend the Smoked Old Fashioned and Private Plane. They make an amazing Lemon Drop Martini. The wine list is extensive and varied. You will be escorted to an immaculately set table and then the quisine experience begins.
We split some oysters and yellowtail sashimi, one of us had the crab cakes which are two large cakes with nothing but seared white lump crab and lemon wedges (Awesome) and the Wedge salad. If you get the chance, you may want to try the lobster tacos. They are delicious. I have had several of the salads and they are all enticing except for the beets. I don't like beets, ever. It is hard to not choose their take on the traditional wedge. It is GIANT, and we always share. Three people easily, no joke. We are never unhappy with it.
Two of us decided on "The Big Eddie" seafood tower to split for our dinner (see photo)it is basically a raw and cooked, chilled seafood bonanza consisting of crab, tuna, lobster, gigantic jumbo shrimp, and more oysters! YEA!!!. The rest of our party chose Chilean Sea Bass (they have a special take on the Sea Bass) and the bone-in Ribeye with smoked chili rub as a change from their usual parmesan/horseradish crust. They did like it a lot. The augratin potatoes were a huge hit. Truly, I think they are the best potato side dish I have ever been served. Smooth, creamy, and zesty with some type of sharp cheddar that was amazing. We were actually fighting over those potatoes. The only blip to this lovely meal was that we ended up sharing a lot of our seafood tower with the meat-eaters! We say hands off our seafood tower! It can serve 4 people, but hey. 🙂
I chose a chocolate martini for desert, while the others had creme brulee, and meyer lemon tarte. My taste of those was yummy, and payback for the shared Big Eddie tower.
So, all in all, We łove our visits to Eddie V's and would not change a thing. Well, sometimes the Redfish filet with lump crab Special tastes fishy....it is the only slightly negative thing I have to say.
Eddie V's is the total package. They are a classy, jazz and piano music filled venue, relaxed, and enjoyable dinner out. Eddie V's is not cheap, nor is it a shorts and sneakers type of place. The waiters, bartenders, hostesses, and floor managers make extraordinary efforts to provide a beautifully prepared dining experience. The kitchen is immaculate, and in full view to the diner's. The chefs are obviously first class. No hiding here.
You will not be rushed or hurried out. The staff tag-teams and provide a seamless white-glove dining experience. It is not cheap to eat here. It can be quite expensive with the highest quality fare available. A wonderful option if you are trying on Eddie V's for the first time, go for their Happy Hour. It is filled with delectible foods, cocktails, and live music. Happy Hour here is one of the best in the city. My sister's choice is to go to happy hour at Eddie V every year for her birthday. You will want to go for the dinner experience after that. Trust me.
PS: I do not work for Eddie V's, I am not married to anyone there, I have not been paid or received anything in return for my review. Not even a martini. I know it might sound kind off gushy. I just love Eddie V's and hope it helps you make a decision when you are choosing a restaurant for a...
Read moreI went for Houston restaurant week. First course: 5/5. I'm not sure, but I think it was smoked salmon, some sort of vegetables that looked kind of like four leaf clovers, and some sort of cheese or cream on top of a toasted piece of bread. It was delicious, but only one small bite. Appetizer: 5/5. lobster bisque. I think this was actually the best lobster bisque ever had. The presentation was nice because they actually had the meat from a lobster claw resting on top of the soup on a toasted piece of bread so that you know that you definitely were getting real lobster meat. They had just the right amount of alcohol in it to give it the flavor without being overpowering. Main course: 5/5. 22-oz. Prime Bone-in Ribeye (extra $22 added to the $45 HRW price). One of the guys in my group of 10 said that his steak was overcooked, but in my opinion it was still medium rare, but just very slightly closer to medium then my medium rare, which was perfectly done. Two other guys said that parts of their medium rare steaks were too rare, and one of them sent it back to the kitchen where they cooked it to his liking. The steak comes with a side of truffle oil mashed potatoes. It was nice that I could actually taste the truffle oil, which made it better than just plain mashed potatoes; this is the first time I’ve ever had truffle oil mashed potatoes. I have had better plain mashed potatoes at other places, though, but they were still pretty good. I ordered the peppercorn cream sauce as a topping, but I was disappointed with what first came out. It was a yellow cream sauce with a very subtle herbal flavor, so I thought they had mistakenly given me one of the other sauces such as the tarragon béarnaise sauce, but when I asked the waitress, she explained that it is made with peppercorns in the sauce, but they strain them out with the intention of leaving the flavor of the sauce without the actual peppercorns. however, I shared some with two other friends and we all agreed that you couldn’t taste the popcorn at all. The waitress suggested that she could add peppercorns to the sauce so that I could see them. I told her I don’t necessarily need to see them, but I definitely want to taste the pepper since I like pepper and spicy foods. The sauce she brought the second time had plenty of visible peppercorns, and tasted much better, as I would expect from a peppercorn sauce, but I think I would have preferred cracked or ground pepper rather than whole peppercorns (a little too much). I will definitely ask for the sauce with visible cracked or ground pepper next time. Dessert: 5/5. Bananas Foster Butter Cake. I think this is one of the best bananas foster dessert that I’ve had. The butter cake is a relatively simple cake similar to run cake in texture and density, but without the alcohol. it’s topped with some sort of caramelized bananas. It comes with a small scoop of butter pecan ice cream, which complements it very well, and is much better than just plain vanilla ice cream like with some bananas foster. They top it off with flambé (They pour flaming alcohol over the entire dessert. I’m not sure how to use that word grammatically?) for visual entertainment and to make it crispy – very nice finishing touch for both presentation and the eating experience. Bread: 5/5. Their bread and seasoned butter was absolutely delicious! I’m not sure what kind of bread it was exactly, but it was very dense but also very soft. It was slightly brown in color, and was not sourdough. The crust was hard (like a typical bread crust, not in a bad way), but the inside was soft. Service: 5/5. as professional as I would expect from a high-end restaurant. Ambience: 5/5. Very nice decor. It was cool how they have a long wall of glass so that you can see the...
Read moreSuperb dining experience! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal last night at Eddie V's. The restaurant is elegant with white table clothes. The bar area has a small corner stage for live music. The oval shaped seating area is large with a TV for viewing sports (go Astros!). In addition to the actual bar top area, there are several tables and booths available. We were well taken care of by Rudy and Omar. The happy hour prices are decent. We enjoyed a glass of wine with our complimentary bread and butter while looking over the menu. The bread was very fresh and piping hot. Rudy made several recommendations for our meal. We finally settled on the tempura shrimp, jumbo crab cake and a dozen oysters. The service, taste and presentation were impeccable. The tempura shrimp come 5 to an order. They arrive on a little skewer stand with lollipop sticks. They had a terrific light crunch and were the perfect bite size starter. The crab cake is a nice size with a delicious spicy chive remoulade. It is a perfect item to share. We finished with 6 of the Gulf Coast oysters and 6 of the parmesan and panko crumb oysters. Both were delicious and fresh. As we enjoyed another glass of wine, I noticed the cocktails they were making across the bar for another guest were quite fancy. I enquired about the drink, so Omar made one for me. It was a smoked Old Fashioned made with a large cube of ice, Basil Hayden’s Bourbon, chocolate bitters, an orange twist, a cherry and served on a smoked plank tableside. I was very impressed with the way it was made and how tasty it was too. We finished our meal with a delicious sharable dessert. In the middle was a cube of Bananas Foster butter cake flambéed tableside. On one side was butter pecan ice cream and on the other, a warm Belgian chocolate cake. Once again, the presentation was fantastic. We enjoyed our full stomachs and sipping our last bit of drinks while listening to the live music. They were wonderful! They played toe tapping tunes you can sing along to. You could hear them throughout the restaurant, even in the main dining area, though it wasn't too loud sitting in the bar. The evening was perfect and we will definitely be back. I recommend this restaurant if you want a full experience, not just a meal. Thanks for the wonderful night, EV's. You guys really out did yourselves! Side note: they have a nice covered patio area at the entrance, but that will have to wait until...
