If you are ever driving along Westheimer, in search for a high-quality and modern space to enjoy a warm drink and a delicious pastry, FIX Coffeebar is the place for you. Opened in June 2016, this minimalist urban shop is well cared for and it continues to look brand new. From the quick service to aesthetically pleasing environment, mouth-watering food to flavourful drinks, FIX Coffeebar is a rising coffee shop star.
Parking is limited and the shop is not too busy. Darkly stained wooden tables decorated with succulents can be found both inside and outside, easily sitting a generous amount of customers. Before ordering your food at the cashier near the back of the restaurant, a large refrigerator stands, full of various cold drinks. Beside this is a wooden shelf that has FIX Coffeebar beans from a variety of countries for sale to bring the taste of costumer’s favorite coffee and tea to their own home. On the other side is a glass case with both sweet and savory pastries including filled danishes, golden croissants of various flavors, and fruity muffins, all of which are served warm upon request. The chalkboard-style menu can be found above this case and lists the many hot drinks that are available for purchase.
The two friendly staff are efficient and, despite our large group of ten, warm pastries and drinks were served promptly. I had ordered the hot chocolate and a plain croissant and they were both presented beautifully. The large croissant was buttery and flakey, resulting a satisfying crackly sound when taking a bite into its airy center. The hot chocolate was equally delicious. The barista had poured a delicate design using the creamy milk, causing frothy bubbles to form around the edge of the large cup. When taking your first sip, there is no need to have anxiety about burning your tongue off, as the warm drink is served at the perfect temperature. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the drink was not overly chocolaty and more on the milky side.
FIX’s Award Winning Nitro Brew Cold Coffee is their signature drink. While it is made with no sugar or sweetener, it has a creamy taste with a sweet undertone, making their no need to add anything to the already perfect cup.
The atmosphere surrounding us was simple with a wood aesthetic along with pieces of motorcycle-themed art. The wood statement wall is eye catching, as it collages many pieces of wood of different colors. This unique pattern appears in various other places in the room, which ties the space together. Each month, FIX Coffeebar displays the artwork of a local Houston artist and host an opening event to introduce their art to their customers and the public. The artwork on display the day our group visited were pieces by Robynn Sanders Hale. Our group agreed that this is a great way to show support for Houstonian artists as well as benefit the coffee shop.
Overall, we highly recommended FIX whether you are on a search for a quiet place to get your work done or somewhere to run in and grab a hot drink and warm pastry when in a hurry. Don’t waste your time in a crowded chain coffee shop when you can get high-quality drinks and pastries for a low price, with friendly service in a easygoing atmosphere and hot chocolate that won’t give you a 3rd degree burn.

Read morefood wise, generic: nothing horribly bad and nothing memorable. well, almost nothing memorable except price (+15% higher than woodbar and southside expresso) and lack of flavor, something both woodbar and southside (two nearby by local places) have in abundance. at Fix the chai tea latte was warm without flavor. the pastry was something in my mouth to chew on rather than something to taste. there was no offer to warm up the pastry, a pet peeve of mine, which might have increased my perception of any flavor. there were at least two staff working and it was not busy so i assume that warming up the pastries is not a standard. and no, i did not ask, i wanted to get their standard service as a base line.
i rarely drink coffee (last time was march) and did not have any here but, based on the name Fix, i wouldn't expect too much. the name creates an image of caffeine addicts, some in obvious withdrawal, coming in to feed their addiction, hoping to stop or stave off their headache/shakes, rather than a drink to be savored and enjoyed. their sole criteria being lots of caffeine, flavor be damned.
decor wise it does not match my mental image of a dimly lit addict focused less-than-legal pusher run distribution center. and to be very clear, i want to reinforce that i have ZERO reason to think that Fix has not met every legal requirement - just following up on the perception of the name as discussed above. i am sure every single requirement has been met by the owners of Fix (but wouldn't a dim, entrance at the end of a back alley only coffee shop with the same name be funny!?!?) the west wall is interesting, composed of thin end grain slices of 2x4 arranged in a mosaic type pattern. the only other aesthetic that stayed with me is the uncomfortable seating - not a welcoming place to camp out for a day of work, but perhaps that is the goal??
with both southpoint and woodbar so good and so close, i have not gone back to Fix. maybe i will give them another chance once they have been open for a...
Read moreMy experience with fix coffeebar is through the online food delivery app doordash. We ordered two regular lattes from them the first morning we were staying in Houston and they arrived with no issues and tasted very good. That afternoon we wanted some more coffee and ordered through doordash again. The order went through and was confirmed via receipt and text message. About 30 minutes later I received a call from the delivery person working for doordash saying that they had arrived to pick up our order and the staff was being very rude and hostile towards her. They were telling her that they never received the order or that the order didn't come through doordash so they weren't willing to fill it. I sent her screenshots of the receipt and text messages to which they told her they would not consider. About 10 minutes later I received a call from an operator working for doordash saying that fix coffee had refused the order and they weren't really sure why and that the order was canceled. I felt so terrible for the delivery girl who had to drive all the way there with pride parade traffic only two be treated in such a terrible manner by the staff of this coffeebar. As a small business owner myself I'm not impressed by that kind of behavior when it comes to a business and I hope the manager reviews this review and maybe advises the staff to be a bit nicer and more professional in situations like this. I'm still confused as to why they refused my order or didn't cancel the order before the driver made their way there to pick it up?! When we are in Houston again I'll take my business...
