Let me start off by saying, the parking situation at the Midtown location wasn’t great in the middle of downtown, no dedicated parking and the employees telling us to “try to find parking on the street” left us doing multiple trips around the block trying to find parking.
We were put in the room with less time on the clock because of the parking situation, that didn’t bother me except the employees coming over the speaker to give us counterproductive hints without us asking in order to help us make up for lost time, the room we were in had a broken lock on the final door that lead outside, so when we put the incorrect key into the lock and it unlocked the final door (which in turn blocked the motion activated light switch in the room causing the lights to go out every 60 seconds resulting in us having to re-trigger the motion activated lights and eating up more time) we were surprised to hear the employee tell us that the lock to the final door was broken when we unlocked it with one of the first keys we going.
Pieces of the puzzle were out of place to the point that, the employee running the puzzle, had to ask us if they were placed in the correct locations which didn’t help.
I’ve walked away from multiple escape rooms without solving them and felt more satisfied. It wouldn’t bother me as much if I had actually enjoyed the experience, but it felt like the room was poorly structured and the props/immersion was broken and out of place from the beginning.
Two takeaways from this,
If you’re planning on going to this game I would say come with an extra 20-30 minutes on top of the 20 minutes they tell you to show up, depending on the day of the week. (Weekends are always so much more busy in downtown).
Maybe it was the puzzle or maybe it was the location but I felt like from the second we set foot in the room we weren’t in control of the puzzle and we didn’t have to try because the employees running the puzzle were rushing us to get out of the room. This isn’t a jab at the employees themselves but just an honest opinion.
Thank you for your...
Read moreI have a few friends that when we travel we try and find a place where we can do a couple escape rooms back to back, and since we’ve played a few dozen rooms we look for quality games. The photos and positive reviews of Escape the Room made it look really promising, unfortunately the registration process and later game play ended up being major disappointments.
When we tried to book the first room online i was past the cart, page saying that our room was reserved for 10 minutes while I could enter payment information, however as I was entering that in I was unexpectedly kicked out of the page and the room and time removed from the page. After 10 minutes it was still unlisted and when I called someone else booked the room, so if you want a room, especially near future, don’t waste time. Despite missing our first pick we signed up for The Theatre (our intended second room if the first was good) and while that registration went a bit smoother, was still surprised that digital waivers were never sent and we could only take care of that when we got on-site (and had to scan QR codes to sign digital waivers)
Eventually we got into the room and while the aesthetics looked great, the gameplay was underwhelming. Fairly linear game, which if fine if there’s some direction built into the game, but there wasn’t. Lots of keypad combinations and memory requirements which can be frustrating with no whiteboard or pen and paper provided. Several of the puzzles gave little if any positive/negative feedback. For one of the puzzle pieces we worked for a few minutes, eventually asked for a hint, the game op (who didn’t seem to be paying much attention to our room in the first place) basically said we already finished that one and other things were unlocked. Extremely frustrating for a room that had a lot of potential. We obviously didn’t do a second room at Escape the Room and at a different site we talked with our game op and they confirmed the puzzles at Escape The Room Houston are really hit or miss. Theatre room is...
Read moreFirst off, let me say that I have played “Escape the Room’s” games in California and they were beyond amazing. This location was an extreme disappointment. My group and I are escape room enthusiasts and have traveled to play games all over the country. We booked their “The Apartment” and “Jurassic Escape” games and both were complete and utter trash.
The first room, The Apartment” did not have a flow, was poorly executed, and our game master was completely unengaged during play. We wasted 3 minutes of game play waiting for our game master to help. I wished I would have read the reviews thoroughly as I definitely agree the people running this location have ZERO personality. No back story was provided, no fun engaging interaction before the game and our game master was completely dry.
The second room, “Jurassic Escape” was an even bigger disappointment. My best friend and I played the same room in LA and it was amazing so I thought my other friends who hadn’t played this one yet would enjoy; boy was I wrong. There were so many equipment malfunctions and errors that my friend gave up and sat on the floor the rest of the game. It was NOTHING compared to the franchise in LA. And once again, our game master was unengaged and not helpful.
Sad to say, this location did not deserve the $350 my group and I spent for these two games. We flew from California just to be gravely disgusted by the lack of quality and care this location has for players. Needless to say, we experienced some other amazing games in Texas. Glad our trip wasn’t completely butchered by...
