Food was ok, hookah was good. Service was horrible. Service was slow, no communication and bad attitude. I'll start: I ordered hookah, hot tea, shawarma plate and rice pudding for dessert. I sat around for 2 hours enjoying myself and the great ladies next to me. Seemed like all of us had issue with service. It was so bad even the server knew he did horrible job so he added 20% gratuity. I am in the same industry. It is against the law to charge gratuity for 1 person and not notify them. I didn't see the shameful act until after the fact because it did not show. After when I asked for itemized receipt the man asked me, why do you need that? (First sign of guilt) I told him I need it please get it to me. After seeing the receipt witch is in this photo, their the tip appeared. I was having conversation with waitress name Lisa told her about it, she couldn't believe and was very apologetic and said let me get my manager. I spoke to manager about it and said, he did that because he knew he gave bad service. However I am not the one to just not tip.. (minimum 20%). Some other guy sitting on his rear end chimes in and says he did it because people do not tip... I told him obviously it's not the people it's you and your buddies horrible service. I proceeded outside to get my car. Very young kid gets my keys, he jumps in the car and he couldn't even put my car in drive... At this point I was like you gotta be effin kidding me right now. I asked the kid for his license he said he forgot it at home. I said how did you get a license if you don't know how to put a car in drive?? Nothing special 2022 Durango.. I had to pay 10.40 to park my own dang car and also get my own car out the valet. I would like to know whom can I contact to resolve this matter. I would hate to have to take this to legal action..

Overall, the place aesthetically looks terrible. Colors were all over the place and a million different patterns. It gives me nostalgia of any circus I attended as a kid. To make matters worse the areas you sit in a like tents 🎪 sort of the way that a circus really is. Anyways I was seated with my date and we got some juice drinks (the same pineapple juice drink) and some waters and a hookah. When they arrived the juice was more of blended pineapple and was berry pulpish. It had so much pulp it was thick like a smoothie (no exaggeration). She immediately said "Eww this is not juice". I agreed in my head. Fast forward to me ordering Chicken Tawook. My sides we salad and hummus with naan of course... the naan 🫓 came out hard as a rock and not fluffy at all. The chicken was cold as the heart of a truck driver and the salad was on the same plate as the hummus and chicken and it was almost like it had just been in water or washed because all the water from the salad was thinning out the hummus and maybe the culprit to my cold chicken. It was bad but so bad that I was like let me not make a scene out of this terrible plate. I left as soon as I finished what I could tolerate eating. Do not order anything here. Bring your own food 🍱

LONG REVIEW: Would give a ZERO, If possible. A couple friends & I came to smoke hookah and continue to have a little fun after a comedy show. This place is HORRIBLE with customer service! FIRST PROBLEM, they brought over our hookah with no coals. We waited a about 5mins or more and noticed that everyone around us had coals when their hookah was taken to them. So we had to go FIND someone to get our coals. SECOND PROBLEM, we had to find someone to get us a refill on coals... which took over 30mins (we never received them) BUT THE PPL AROUND US RECEIVED COALS WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS (they knew the owners... the ppl next to us told us they knew the owners after we asked them where they got the alcohol from. The establishment don’t serve liquor AT ALL) so of course they were WELL TAKEN CARE OF. It was like we didn’t exist to the workers. After waiting over 30 mins & finding the manager multiple time for the refill we finally decided to get up and leave. The waitress we had stopped us at the door and asked if we was ready to pay ( SHE NEVER CHECKED ON US AFTER SHE TOOK OUR ORIGINAL HOOKAH ORDER). The “manager” never apologized he just said “y’all are ok” and we left. I don’t plan on ever being back.

My recent encounter at caffe mawal left me utterly appalled and dissatisfied. After being unjustly kicked out for smoking hookah, I approached Dia, a staff member, to request the bill. Shockingly, he informed me that there was no bill and promptly expelled me from the premises.

This incident not only exemplified the restaurant's unprofessional conduct but also raised concerns about their unsettling practices. Denying a customer a bill is an unacceptable behavior that further tarnishes their reputation.

Coupled with my previous negative experiences during my employment there, this incident reinforced the notion that [caffè Mawal ] is an establishment that should be avoided. I wholeheartedly encourage others to refrain from patronizing this restaurant, as their treatment of customers and dubious practices are simply unacceptable.

Save yourself the frustration, disappointment, and potential financial complications by seeking out alternative dining options. [caffe Mawal ] has demonstrated a lack of professionalism and integrity, making it an establishment unworthy of your time and money.

My experience with [mawal] as an employee was nothing short of a nightmare, and I feel compelled to share my story as a word of caution. The establishment exploited me, made me work for free on numerous occasions, delayed my payments, and wreaked havoc on my personal life. The never-ending drama associated with this restaurant is something I strongly advise others to avoid.

During my time at [mawal], I was constantly taken advantage of as an employee. I was expected to perform tasks outside of my job description without compensation, essentially working for free. The management's blatant disregard for fair employment practices left me feeling used and undervalued.

To make matters worse, receiving my rightful wages was an ongoing struggle. Payments were consistently delayed, causing financial hardship and stress. This lack of professionalism and respect for employees' well-being is a clear indication of the restaurant's disreputable nature.

Moreover, the drama that surrounded [mawal] seemed never-ending. The toxic work environment and unresolved conflicts permeated every aspect of the establishment. It had a detrimental effect on my mental health and overall quality of life.

I implore anyone considering employment at [mawal] to think twice. The mistreatment, late payments, and unending drama are not worth the toll it takes on your well-being. Spare yourself the pain and frustration by seeking employment opportunities elsewhere.

In conclusion, my experience with [mawal] as an employee was deeply disheartening. The exploitation, delayed payments, and perpetual drama were detrimental to my life. I urge individuals to steer clear of this establishment, as its management's practices and disregard for employees' rights and well-being are a recipe for disaster. Look for a workplace that respects and values its employees, ensuring a healthier and more...

Where do i start...... In a 3 day visit to Houston, I had the pleasure to visit the outstanding cafe Mawal after hearing so much about it from Dallas. Atmosphere: A Perfect blend of perfection between the arabesque indoor setting that brings you back to the middle eastern authenticity 100%, And the massive outdoor covered area that can host up to 600-700 seats easily. Covered with high trees and don't worry about heating or cooling....they got it all covered with a great numbers of fans for summer time and heaters for winter time.......perfect all year round.

Food Quality: Simply unmatched, we had dinner and to our surprise....Management was serving us without even knowing (That alone gets 100 stars). The maza selections they have is endless, the flavor is what we expected from an authentic middle eastern cuisine brought in from the middle east. The meat is perfectly cooked and the seasoning is what made it perfect.

Desserts: We had the Knafe, which is a must have (10 stars)

Hookah: Coming from Dallas and the wide selection of hookah lounges and middle eastern restaurants and their high quality, and me being a very picky smoker....I was not holding my breath and wasn't expecting much. To my surprise , the double apple hookah with a pineapple head my first time to try that combination was INSANE. the flavor in the pineapple head for me was absolutely the best i've ever had in a fruithead.

Service: TOP NOTCH, very attentive staff and the thing that stood out was the management who was attending to our service and needs at all times NON STOP. To top it all off, We had the honor to meet the Owner himself coming to our table and ask how was everything !!!!! This Made everyone appreciate how MAWAL and everyone at MAWAL takes care of their patrons.

Hospitality: From the Valet to the table, Our experience started the minute we got out of the car....very respectful Valet staff and assured us that they will take great care of our cars (4 total). Servers, what to say .....non stop attention and not one empty nor dirty plate was left on the table, everything was ON TIME.

Overall: IF you are in Houston, you are the lucky ones..... IF you visiting Houston, You have got to make a point to stop by MAWAL and get what we had.

Thank you Mawal for making us feel at home...

After many great Saturday dinners here its sad to say this place has gone down. Family came out of town to celebrate my brothers birthday. We reserved for a total of 18 people including about 8 kids. First thing was there was no more valet and we were all charged for parking and everyone was charged different rates. The whole restaurant had about 20 guest total not including us. Music was extremely loud and lights blaring at the tables to the point we could not even have a conversation with the person next to us or even open our eyes. So we moved to one of the back rooms which is really uncomfortable to eat with the family.

Ordered drinks and food almost immediately with about 30% of the items we requested being not available. It took almost 45 minutes for our drinks to arrive but that was after I went to complain. about 10 - 15 minutes after the drinks arrived the food arrived and it was cold and very bland (not the typical experience i previously had here). After asking why they were so slow in serving us they said they were short staffed. I did not believe because the restaurant was almost empty and the waiter were hanging out in the front. The least they could have done is communicate with us the delay but they continued telling me they are short staffed.

At this point the entire family was very annoyed and my poor brother had the worst experience being visiting from out of town and wanted to experience this place after I told him so much good things about my previous experience.

Now to the worst part. When I decided to pay the bill, I was told to pay a service charge for using a credit card. Grant it that this was almost a $600 bill and they wanted to charge a credit card service charge. This has never happened before to me at this establishment or any other restaurant. I am not sure if the management or owners have changed but we will never be going there and never recommending anyone to this place. So sad to see this place take a dip from...
