Bento Corner (Visited Feb 2025)

This store is located in a small strip mall just off Westheimer Road in Houston. In conversation with the lady at the front (Very pleasant, and speaks Mandarin too!), I was informed that the business opened 6 months ago. There is a small in-store dining area, but the parking outside is limited as there are several eateries beside each other. When I fot there around noon on A Tuesday noon hour, there was only one person ahead of me who ordered dine-in. The place serves Asian (Japanese, Chinese) cuisine in a four compartment box forming a combination meal. The food is sealed over the 4 compartment plastic container, and then placed in a wooden box with a see-through top lid. For a "fast" food place, the presentation and packaging I consider very elegant.

Having said the above, I must preface that I bought this meal just before I got on a plane going back to Seattle, so by the time I got to eat in my seat, the food had turned room temperature. So, whatever I write includes some imagination and supposition on my part.

What I ordered included pork katsu, fried rice, seaweed salad, and crab rangoon. (Definitely try the seaweed salad!- Crunchy with sweet and sour marinade.) Options are customizable to your needs, and the store has quite a lot of options. Even having turned room temperature, it tasted very good. I can imagine how great the meal would have been when it just came out. For the ~$15 I paid for the meal, it was a bargain compared to the overpriced mediocre airport and plane foods. If I were to live in Houston, this will likely be my go-to place at least once a week..

An easy 5 out of 5 rating. Happy eating !!

P.S. Forgot to take a picture before I ate in the place. LOL

P.P.S. For the lady up front, thank you for the...

Wonderful experience! People were so friendly and the food is delicious! Definitely recommend for an easy family dinner or quick lunch stop. Details of my visit below:

I ordered two bento boxes - one with pork katsu for myself and one with general Tso’s chicken for my son. The crab Rangoon side was my favorite - probably my favorite Rangoon in Houston.

I preferred the fried rice while my son (8) preferred the white rice. We both thought the general tso’s chicken was 10/10 amazing and would order again. The katsu was a 7/10 but the gravy served with it was absolutely divine and bumps it up a few points, so I’d order again. The serving sizes were enough that we probably could have shared a box, but neither of us eats big portions.

The lady behind the counter was a gem of a person. She gave me a complimentary fruit tea and it was so good - will definitely be a regular stop for me to grab one of those. Would absolutely suggest adding one to your order.

This place is more of a order and pick up kind of spot. It took about 15 minutes (she said bc the katsu takes some extra time) but I happily waited and thought it was more than worth it.

I hope this place does well because the people deserve it and the food is an excellent quick stop. It would be great for both lunch or dinner and the packaging is really nicely done, imo. Both of my kids would enjoy and eat this food and we’re always looking for new places that we...

We ordered a Mongolian chicken and a chicken katsu. Both entrees are delicious and definitely worth ordering. The crab ragoon is absolutely fantastic as well as the fried rice. Unfortunately we will wait to go back due to the 40 minutes wait (which no one told us before we ordered), it being packed as to-go when we chose the dine in option, and having our order messed up. We decided to take the food home since we already waited 40 minutes and there was no bathroom and the stools were a bit uncomfortable. This lead to us noticing that instead of 2 orders of crab ragoon we got one and then an order of egg rolls (which were alright). And seaweed salad instead of coleslaw. Both of those things were quite disappointing to discover. No one wants their order messed up. I know they just opened so we are giving them the benefit of the doubt in figuring things out, we'll be back in a few months when things are...

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely loved this place! Stopped by The Don after seeing a few good reviews, and it definitely lived up to the hype. I ordered the Japanese beef curry and the house special fried tofu — both were excellent. The curry had a rich, savory flavor with super tender beef and hearty veggies, and the portion was really generous. The fried tofu was crispy outside, soft inside, and had this sweet-savory sauce that made it kind of addictive. Service was fast and friendly, and the place felt clean and relaxed — perfect for a quick lunch or casual dinner. Prices were fair for the quality (around $15–$18 per dish), and they even threw in a free miso soup. Overall, great food, good portions, and zero hassle. I’ll definitely be coming back to try more dishes.

We ordered the Szechuan Shrimp bento & the Mongolian Beef bento to-go. We came in at 11, the order took 15 min to be made. There is limited seating; three two-seater tables, and a small wall bar that sits 3. The owner is very nice she gave me a free house special fruit tea with popping boba, it's very delicious and refreshing. The Bento boxes are well packaged, and the presentation was nice. Both the Szechuan Shrimp and Mongolian Beef were well seasoned and had good flavor. Nothing was overly salted, and we liked the appetizers and side salads. I will be coming back for lunch often. Also, there was a BOGO 50% special, so for two of us, the bill was $30 bucks.

The Don is officially my go-to for Japanese comfort food! I ordered the eel donburi, chicken katsu bento, fried tofu, and shrimp tempura—and everything was so good. The eel was tender with that perfect sweet-savory glaze over warm rice. The chicken katsu was crispy, juicy, and came with just the right sides to balance it out. The fried tofu had a light, crispy exterior and super soft inside, and the shrimp tempura was fresh, not oily, and had that perfect crunch. Everything tasted fresh and was packaged really well. Definitely recommend if you’re craving quality Japanese food without the wait of a full sit-down restaurant. I’ll absolutely be back!
