Bento Corner (Visited Feb 2025)
This store is located in a small strip mall just off Westheimer Road in Houston. In conversation with the lady at the front (Very pleasant, and speaks Mandarin too!), I was informed that the business opened 6 months ago. There is a small in-store dining area, but the parking outside is limited as there are several eateries beside each other. When I fot there around noon on A Tuesday noon hour, there was only one person ahead of me who ordered dine-in. The place serves Asian (Japanese, Chinese) cuisine in a four compartment box forming a combination meal. The food is sealed over the 4 compartment plastic container, and then placed in a wooden box with a see-through top lid. For a "fast" food place, the presentation and packaging I consider very elegant.
Having said the above, I must preface that I bought this meal just before I got on a plane going back to Seattle, so by the time I got to eat in my seat, the food had turned room temperature. So, whatever I write includes some imagination and supposition on my part.
What I ordered included pork katsu, fried rice, seaweed salad, and crab rangoon. (Definitely try the seaweed salad!- Crunchy with sweet and sour marinade.) Options are customizable to your needs, and the store has quite a lot of options. Even having turned room temperature, it tasted very good. I can imagine how great the meal would have been when it just came out. For the ~$15 I paid for the meal, it was a bargain compared to the overpriced mediocre airport and plane foods. If I were to live in Houston, this will likely be my go-to place at least once a week..
An easy 5 out of 5 rating. Happy eating !!
P.S. Forgot to take a picture before I ate in the place. LOL
P.P.S. For the lady up front, thank you for the...
Read moreWonderful experience! People were so friendly and the food is delicious! Definitely recommend for an easy family dinner or quick lunch stop. Details of my visit below:
I ordered two bento boxes - one with pork katsu for myself and one with general Tso’s chicken for my son. The crab Rangoon side was my favorite - probably my favorite Rangoon in Houston.
I preferred the fried rice while my son (8) preferred the white rice. We both thought the general tso’s chicken was 10/10 amazing and would order again. The katsu was a 7/10 but the gravy served with it was absolutely divine and bumps it up a few points, so I’d order again. The serving sizes were enough that we probably could have shared a box, but neither of us eats big portions.
The lady behind the counter was a gem of a person. She gave me a complimentary fruit tea and it was so good - will definitely be a regular stop for me to grab one of those. Would absolutely suggest adding one to your order.
This place is more of a order and pick up kind of spot. It took about 15 minutes (she said bc the katsu takes some extra time) but I happily waited and thought it was more than worth it.
I hope this place does well because the people deserve it and the food is an excellent quick stop. It would be great for both lunch or dinner and the packaging is really nicely done, imo. Both of my kids would enjoy and eat this food and we’re always looking for new places that we...
Read moreWe ordered a Mongolian chicken and a chicken katsu. Both entrees are delicious and definitely worth ordering. The crab ragoon is absolutely fantastic as well as the fried rice. Unfortunately we will wait to go back due to the 40 minutes wait (which no one told us before we ordered), it being packed as to-go when we chose the dine in option, and having our order messed up. We decided to take the food home since we already waited 40 minutes and there was no bathroom and the stools were a bit uncomfortable. This lead to us noticing that instead of 2 orders of crab ragoon we got one and then an order of egg rolls (which were alright). And seaweed salad instead of coleslaw. Both of those things were quite disappointing to discover. No one wants their order messed up. I know they just opened so we are giving them the benefit of the doubt in figuring things out, we'll be back in a few months when things are...
