I give them a 3.5/5!
Came in after having been curious for a while. This place has an impressive amount of different baked goods, as well as some general groceries (lots of chilies!), some party gifts/favors, and it looked like a new hot food bar.
Everything was clean and neatly organized. After poking around for a few minutes a woman came out from the back and asked if I needed anything. I told her I'd like to grab some pastries and she took me to the front counter to get me a tray and tongs. I made my selection (a cheese and guava pastry and a concha) and paid at the counter. Under $5 for two pastries is a great deal, I feel!
No troubles communicating in English here either, so don't be shy if you don't speak Spanish! Service was polite, kind, and helpful.
Sadly, my pastries were a mixed bag. The guava and cheese one was very yummy: super flaky pastry, smooth but gooey cheese, and sweet and sticky guava filling. This one was a winner! The concha, however, was very dry and hard and didn't have much flavor at all. Bummer!
One other slightly frustrating thing is that a lot of the pastries weren't labeled at all, in English or Spanish. About 25% were marked in both languages and that's what I chose from, but there were multiple other items I was curious about that weren't marked at all. I wish I had some way of knowing what they were other than sight alone. It's hard to know if a given item will have a specific filling or ingredient I may not like if I'm not even sure what they are.
Overall, I'd consider coming back to try new things, as I'd love to expand my horizons! However, there is room for improvement, too. Thanks for the yummy cheese and...
Read moreI went into this Mexican cuisine in my community just thought I would support they had no customers everything was in Spanish I get it, I let them know I don’t speak Spanish and that it was my first time there, before I ordered I looked around for there healthscore they had nothing posted, so I see they had a variety of different fountain drinks and I asked the flavors they were unable to tell me even when I used google translate, I asked if I could have a sample so I can decide she stated no, I also order a burrito they asked me if I wanted small or large I told them large the burrito is very small. I also ordered a large drink that was $5 and 3pastries items totaling to $30 when I asked why my burrito wasn’t large this rude staff flagged me away and walked off, the whole experience was very unsettling and I felt unwelcome Because I was not Hispanic, I was extra nice because I didnt want any problems but I will not return and I hope anyone who reads this feel my hurt in my words when I was only trying to support never go...
Read moreI went this morning to look at the baked goods. Seemed like a local store, so always happy to support them rather than the giants.
However, they had a mask requirement (which is of course their right to decide). I did not have one, since literally no place (except the Apple Store) in Huntsville requires a mask anymore.
They gave me and my friend a mask each, I almost was gonna put it on the face, and they told me it would be $1 for each mask. I was appalled, as the masks were the regular blue and white use and throw ones. So I handed them back the masks, and they put it back with the other masks (yes, a mask held by a customer is put back into the mask box).
Needless to say, I left and never planning to look back at this bakery. Aldi was right next door, and I didn't feel the need to complain further.
P.S.- The masks in Apple store are free. While handing me one, the guy gave 2 as they stuck to each other. When I returned the extra, he threw it into...
