We had heard good reviews about One Eleven, so I decided to take my husband for Father's Day dinner at 6pm. It wasn't crowded, so that was a plus. When ordering, we were told you absolutely can not substitute your sides. What?? You can pay full price, of course, to add on any other side you want, but you can not substitute. I thought "Fine dining" (their claim), meant sort of catering to your patrons? Also, I assume if someone is allergic to Tomatoes, then the rule is the same... because she said it twice "You can not substitute" and did not ask if there were any allergies. (He doesn't have an allergy, I am just making a point, as she SHOULD have asked) I wish I had asked to speak to a manager, but I don't like to make a scene. So, we decided I would just eat the Tomato Gratin with my Wedge salad with grilled chicken, and he would be fine with the $42 filet with the whipped potatoes on the side. (It comes with whipped potatoes and the tomato) Husband said the filet was pretty good, but not seasoned much at all. (My wedge was good. Although a little smaller than I expected) Now... if you are going to serve a tomato in this way, it should at least be an organic, yummy, red juicy tomato and not a hardish, pinkish tomato as offered at the grocery store. I wish I had taken pictures, but I don't normally do reviews and didn't think to do that. The final small issue was when I went for the salt and pepper to try to improve the tomato gratin, and realized you must request salt and pepper. That took another 5 mins, while I kept looking for my server. We should have at least been offered salt and pepper at some point (maybe when the food arrived?) and I would have said yes. Just to be clear, they don't come and grind for you. It's just small size salt and pepper grinders they leave on the table. So, that really shouldn't be a bother to the server, should it?
We may return if we are dining with friends and One Eleven is their preference, but it will not be our first choice for...
Read moreMy husband and I were excited to try this place. The atmosphere and decor from the pictures we saw from grand opening drew us in. What we experienced: The service was slow. We asked for recommendations from the menu and the server didn’t know what to recommend. I understand it’s a new restaurant, but the servers should have more knowledge with the menu. I love the names of the drinks on the menu and how they incorporated Huntsville in it. My husband and I started with cocktails, the mussels, and the shaved asparagus salad. We wanted to try the lentil salad, but they said it was already premixed so you couldn’t take out of on the ingredients which was a no go for us. The mussels were bland. They were in a butter wine sauce, but other than that there were no other flavors. The shaved asparagus salad was good. I would recommend that. Also the mussels came with truffle fries and those were good as well, another recommendation. For our meal we got the Angry Prawns and the Pork Chop with a side of whipped potatoes. The Pork Chop was very dry and tough and the whipped potatoes were gritty. So I wasn’t impressed with those. My husband said his entree was only alright. I wanted to try the Green Mountain cocktail as my dessert drink, but our server said the smoke bubble wouldn’t be on it so I opted out. Also on the menu there is a QR code for you to explore more options. The page was blank/temporarily unavailable when scanning it. Again I understand it is a new restaurant, but the QR code should not be advertised until they work. The menus can always be reprinted once the QR code works. We opted out on desserts because we just had a so so experience so we thought the desserts might be so so as well. The bathrooms were very nice. I felt like I was in an upscale dressing room while in the bathroom stalls and there was a sink in each stall which was nice. This place has a lot of potential. I hope it only gets...
Read moreDisappointed to say the least. One Eleven is the perfect example of why people disparage Huntsville dining. I was so excited to try this spot based on the rave reviews, but the experience fell short for me. My friends and I went to celebrate a major milestone. We sat at the bar with the intention of eating, drinking and being merry! We let the bartender know of our accomplishment, and she seemed joyous at the beginning of our night.
As we tried to keep the celebration flowing, Taylor let us know there was a "three drink maximum," something that we would have loved to know at the beginning of our celebration. At that point, we'd had spent around 3 hours there, plus ordered appetizers and food. If we'd been too excited or too loud (in the already loud cross chatter of the bar), it would have been great to get a heads up. Taylor said she "didn't want to be mean" so she didn't say anything.
We were super bummed to hear this and could have toned down our joy with a warning. We made friends with the people on both sides of us, and everyone seemed to be having a good time–minus the staff.
Make sure you DOUBLE CHECK your bill at the end of the night–mine was inflated with drinks I didn't buy, and my friend's was incorrect too. I brought this to the attention of the staff who corrected the mistake unapologetically. Adien was listed as my server and made a disparaging comment about our group driving home before we left, despite the fact that he knew nothing of our situation.
Needless to say, I was hoping One Eleven would be the answer to Huntsville's culinary gap. The atmosphere is beautiful, but the staff we encountered was under skilled in handling interactions with customers. I won't be recommending One Eleven...
